For a dev shop, anything that brings in more than (more or less) $20k /year. Otherwise also fundraising (as someone else said). Though for both of these, if the business is cash-strapped, the results would have to be pretty much assure

Unfortunately, I'm coming to realize what you say is true. Now that I think about it, there is NO issue that negatively affects my work/life balance more than having Slack installed on my phone.

I defintiely feel it. On my computer, I can just quit the Slack app and that's it. But on my cell phone, unless I put the whole phone on "do not disturb", I cannot escape Slack. The "disbale notifications on the specific

All that's needed is for Google to make it factor in search ranking and you can bet that we'll all be finally reading up on ipv6 and how to make it work well on our servers, and testing the hell out of it :-)

The difference is that "mongo" does not have a universally-known meaning. Cockroaches and known throughout the world, and are disgusting throughout the world.

Agreed. It's a very stupid name. It's memorable for all the wrong reasons: It detracts from the product, and takes attention away from the product to the product name that elicits a visceral disgust in a lot of people. The conve

Gotta love it when people ask for magical solutions. The only way to change the password on 200 accounts is to change the password on 200 accounts.

Key word was "upset". Vote with your wallet, that's fine. My point is that it's stupid to place your emotional state on something you do not control.

There's a right reason to be upset about something one does not control? The buyout is not good or bad, it just is. Don't get upset people, you couldn't prevent it before and you cannot undo it now.

Everyone in EU already speaks English :-) Not trying to be an ass by saying that, but if you go to Europe claiming to be Canadian :-) and speaking English, you will not have a hard time pretty much anywhere, at least in Western EU.

Me too. I would absolutely love to do this... (The reason is that I'm tired of the political crap going on here, it would be refreshing to see different political crap :-). Plus I absolutely love Europe. Would like to live there till

To be fair, in the USA, it depends on the industry that you are going into. If you are planning on joining the startup world, the attitude ranges from indifference to the degree to downright hostiliy (do your best to hide that you have an

Do your research. There is no such thing as a "transfer degree". You either transfer or you do not. Get an associates, the paper looks good, it's an ego boost, and it will make your family proud of you. After you get your bac

One thing: Different countries view college degrees differently. In some, if you do not have a college degree, you will not even get considered for the job, no matter what you've done. It might affect work visas as well (some countries

Don't confuse missing the point of the article with not caring about the rest of the article. I had a chuckle too about "malicious". A DDoS attack is a DDoS attack. It's like hearing about a "malicious stabbing." But whatever, there are DDo

I see it this way: The agent's more than earned his 15% if he gets me a higher paying gig than I could get myself (higher than 15% increase, that is). The benefit I get from not dealing with the stuff they claim to take care of is more than
