How is it that you think a corporation is not capable of making geopolitical judgments? You don't think they have a PR department? You don't think they have leadership that can read the news?

Super cool, they added fluorescent proteins that activate when the neurons fire and did it in a Zebrafish which is transparent so they could literally watch the memories forming. Interesting also they wanted to keep the light as low as poss

Author compares meditation to doing LSD, then states that doing LSD can be helpful but super hurtful to possibly schizophrenic people. Some part of me can't stop thinking that it's nuts to tell people to not sit quietly and try an

Seems that having the brick and mortar shop exposes how cheap the crap on Amazon is. I never regret going to a store for anything remotely expensive where I'm unsure of the quality. Amazon will always hover around just good enough and

Sounds like a step in the right direction but some part of me can't stop thinking some three letter agency is holding onto all the data they can get. Just like the story that Senators Ron Wyden and Martin Heinrich exposed about the CIA

Clojure absolutely does not reflect on every call, and no it does require type hinting every argument to every function to get that speed. Especially after Clojure 1.8 came out, huge performance gains were had by inlining far more direct fu

I was learning Japanese in Tokyo while also working on a small-business accounting app. Japanese accounting is extremely specific, so even for someone enrolled in classes, there was no way I would be learning all those kanji any time soon.

I think GP is fair when they don't want to support crazy sideloaded app land. We all live by the same rules, and I also would like to be able to install anything, but supporting my family is super hard as it is. It's about removin

Agreed. And I think the article's point about whether or not Apple's store is safe or not is moot. The question really is, how much worse would it be if they weren't there. I'll take a good attempt at safety over the wil

I thought the whole point of the rotation was to make it hard to track credit card purchases across stores etc. Just rotating the CVV is a nice security feature but definitely not that.

The Apple credit card only shows the number if you reveal it in Apple Wallet app. Their card, technically run by Goldman Sachs, is all white with no numbers. Not sire how to verify but I've heard if you use it with Apple Pay I think it

Right, avoid using symbols that look like gensym stuff. It would be pretty silly to do something like that. If I saw someone using "G__1234" then that would be a pretty big eyebrow raiser.

I find it fascinating that the author was forced to learn CL because there were no jobs in Haskell. I believe him, but as a Clojure developer, I find it very hard to find a lot of jobs in any functional language, especially lisps. They exis

The average is probably horribly misrepresented. There are a ton of super long holders, which hold for decades, and a crazy high number of HFTs running that hold for microseconds. I bet nobody is actually close to the average, 22 seconds is

Lack of TCO is a JVM problem. All JVM languages are incapable for this reason. It's a very hard problem to fix apparently, I remember even asking one of the Sun JVM developers at a talk at my university and he said one of the issues wa
