To be clear, the OP is talking about expansion of the platform itself , not libraries. In my view, the real development burden is on the browser vendors, not the site authors. A site can always choose not to use some new feature. Imagine

Monoid != Monad There seems to be some confusion about which one is confusing. The hardest part of understanding monoids is accepting that yes, that's all there is to it. The fuss is about the other one.

Exactly right. The author loses all credibility when suggesting that parents somehow view children in the same way that economists think people view commodities (which by the way is also mostly wrong, but that's another story).
