Why not throw the weight behind VP9? edit: I actually am curious, this isn't a question pointed at the validity of Thor. I just really want to see a great, open-source standard emerge and see people get behind it.

My experience with wheels has been that it continues to be an absolute nightmare to deal with Linux distros and we end up building from the tarballed source as usual. Then again, we tend to struggle a bit with Python package management in g

Her experience is certainly very interesting and unique. There's a bit of intersectionalism going on here, though. The experiences of a non-autistic woman in technology, I would imagine, are dramatically different from an autistic woma

+1 Fantastic. Its hard to receive these reviews as a young engineer, and as a slightly more experienced engineer, it is also hard to give them. But its an important part of the job. Its fine, in my opinion, to give the hard review, as long

All very true, I just think its still a little early to recommend Rust, personally.

I think this is pretty reasonable depending on how severe the issue is. You should have some monitoring and alerting on this. If this is happening once a month under extreme circumstances, its probably safe to let things continue like that

I love how far the world has come over the past few decades. It is amazing how quickly you can get content up and online, and available to people. Great post, I really think it highlights the power of technology and the appeal that it offer

I still feel like Chicago developers miss out on being exposed to the culture of SV or Seattle. I've worked and lived in Chicago all of my professional career, and one of the intangible non-money aspects to this field to consider is ho

I agree with this in principle, but honestly the sampled numbers can be really misleading. It all depends on the magnitude of your visits. If you ask for a year's worth of data for a company with 10 million visits for the year, you

I loved the article. I think it tracks very much in line with the kind of experiences that I have personally had in working with Google Analytics data -- both via their reporting API and in the dashboard itself. I think GA is a great servi

I'm not sure how I feel about the sort question being a super simple "fizzbuzz" type command line question in an interview. The problem with some of the CLI stuff is that its really a simple yes/no "do you remember

Its good that places like this exist. My experience thus far has shown me that different developers might go through different phases of their careers in terms of how much they like to work. I think the article touches on this a bit, noting

Sure. I think this is a good point. I suppose when I was thinking startup I was envisioning a group of more than 1 developer. At least a 3-4.

I really enjoyed this read, and I think the author has a very valid point. I spent the first portion of my college time for example very much in the "I'll wait to feel motivated" camp and had not so great results. I eventuall

+1 on the startup idea. I left a big company to go to a startup and I think its really been a great choice. You'll be exposed to so many new ideas and technologies and really get a chance to expand your skillset. Maybe if you work at a

I feel like the ignorance of developers here is overstated. Most APIs that I know of make good use of the HTTP status codes. This includes APIs from big players like Google, all the way down to small startup APIs. Sure I've seen bad on
