Thanks for the alternate suggestions (biased as they may be). My biggest pain point when writing doc in md is tables. They are so hard to parse in the raw text, and I constantly have to be checking the rendered output to make any edits/

> Maybe that explains why Kickstarter and Steam saw a ton of retro 2D games in the past few years I actually think (as someone with gamedev experience) that the explanation has to do with the difficulty of creating art assets for 3d game

Yes players can sell items to other players, so that's the one place so far I've needed to worry about atomicity, but even mongodb docs give examples with how to deal with something like that: https://docs.mongodb.com&#

Video games storing player data are a great example of nonrelational data. I'm intending on writing a blog post after I finish my game detailing the structure of data I store and why it was so perfect for mongodb.

Is that a SaaS for SaaS's? Can we go deeper?

Typical for what? SaaS websites? Websites monetizing with ads generally sell for only around 12 months revenue, and apps generally sell for around 6 months, because of the volatility in users/downloads and uncertainty in the markets. R

> For whatever reason Just a wild guess, but that reason could be that ad monetization works way better on videos than static pages and are more likely to garner subscribers to build a following.

Another anecdote. I have been working on a large mobile game in Unity for over 3 years. I need to write a tool to manage the virtual (game) item database so we could add content to the game without updating the app. I could build this app w

> A disproportionate number of the apples in the grocery store have MacIntosh in their ancestry Interesting! I love Macintosh apples having grown up on them from my mother who is from Vermont (She makes a mean Apple Pie with only those).

I responded about why I do it in a sibling comment. If you ever find a link to other sleep cycles I’d appreciate it. I’ve heard of people taking many shorter naps before but not staying up longer and sleeping longer.

But if the rate of clearage is the same then because I’m sleeping longer it should clear more of the protein?

I make mobile apps with my brother. We’ve found that we’re much more efficient when we can work in long uninterrupted periods of time. It takes a while to get reloaded into the program, so if we do an 8 hour work day we may have 5 hours of

I wonder how the protein collects in people like myself, who will routinely stay up 24-30 hours, but then sleep 12-14 hours after.

Super Mario Run, Pokemon GO, and Hearthstone are also made with Unity.

Ok this is pretty cool. This is also why I love HN. I've been using SQLite for ~3 years, have I missed this from the beginning or has it been added since then?

Interesting, I did not know that. However, I use a 3rd party framework to transform the table rows to classes, and I assume I would lose all that magic conversion. In other words, the reason I go through all the effort of transforming to re

I am developing a mobile game and the BaaS we use (Gamesparks) uses MongoDB. Currently I use SQLite to cache the data locally, but that can be a pain to transform document formatted data to relational, and back. I wish I had known about thi

This is almost disturbingly accurate to how I feel in the "zone" as well. A consequence of this is it's hard to have a healthy life as a self-employed programmer. If I want the app I'm working on finished faster (and I d

Apple changed apps with In App Purchases from being able to say "Free" to "Get." Maybe they'll do the same with ad supported apps as well.

I'm currently making a mobile f2p game in Unity. I previously had created a Cocoa app for the game item creation/ db management. Since we changed the architecture of the game pretty heavily, I needed to rewrite the tool. I chose E

Yeah I've read some horror stories about that too. I think that the improvements to concurrency (ala WiredTiger), will help wth that, as well as making sure to think about possible concurrency issues from the outset, as I've tried

I know it's pretty popular to hate on Mongodb now (even more so than it was to love on Mongodb 4 years ago), but there are still areas where it's better than a relational db. In game development, it's extremely helpful (espec

All these stories are reminding me of m first encounter with programming. My Grandpa gave me his $600 Visual Basic (5?) book + software when I was 13 (~15 years ago). He didn't have the registration key, but I naively thought I could g

Regarding the review hounding, I use Google labs experimental feature to auto reply to such posts. If any emails match the domain (something.amazon.com) and have the word "review" in them they get sent straight to the trash and ge
