Just wanted to chime in that I pre-ordered the gold 5s and am still waiting for it, however, I did go into the Apple Store over the weekend and take a look at a gold one and, boy, it's not really that gold. It's not bling or shiny

After reading about how Touch ID actually works, and how it reads the characteristics of the electrical field created between the sensor and the valleys of your finger's living skin tissue, I think it will take something more sophistic

I remember when two of my friends got Android phones that were face unlockable. First thing we did was hold up an iPhone with a picture of their face to it and it worked to unlock the phone! We tried this a bunch of times and it worked ever

In their examples, none of their buttons were actually buttons. Nor were they even links. They were all DIVs. This is pretty terrible HTML, for many reasons, especially for accessibility.

And on the flip side, if you are a freelancer with a title of "Web Designer" then it is expected that you can also build the webpages that you create. Businesses want someone to design & build them a website and if you can onl

This is not true. MacBooks all have a Sudden Motion Sensor which has an API that will give you live accelerometer data. Here's a quick list of apps/games that use it: http://modmyi.com/forums/mac-gaming/8

Another problem with people conflating "UX Designer" with "UI Designer" is that if you put "UX" in a job title hoping to get "UI" folks, you will get the wrong people. I have seen this first-hand now

My guess is an idiot product manager conflated "jailbroken" with "stole the app" and thought the feature would be a good one.

So if someone buys the app legitimately from the App Store with a jailbroken phone, they'll still get this popup? That's pretty ridiculous. This isn't about stopping piracy or shaming pirates, it's a blanket accusation t

As a designer who builds out a lot of early prototypes for testing, Parse is really amazing. Previously I'd do some localStorage hacks to store simple data for prototype demos but since it was just on one machine it was really limited. Now

Just a small accessibility thing: having inputs with placeholder text is great, but screenreaders have not caught up with the times and you should still use a corresponding <label> tag.

I wrote the tweets featured in the article and thought I'd chime in with a few more thoughts... I think flat design is inclusive design, that is, it's not hoity-toity, impossible-to-execute, beautifully 3D-rendered and textured expensive de

A million downloads of a free app is not really that noteworthy. My friend made a simple, free iPhone game in a weekend where you tap on a soccer ball and keep it from dropping and routinely gets 10s of thousands of downloads a month with a

Figuring out what to do after you build a product is only hard if you don't plan to sell the product. For example, if you build a consumer-oriented service that you plan to offer for free, then, yes, developing the business model is hard. A

I'm not sure what you are saying. That people have jQuery loaded on their websites but aren't using it? If that's your argument, then that's now a wholly separate argument. jQuery having a huge installed base is what we're talking about, an
