How does this stack up against something like VendHQ? (Which I hear is pretty awesome because of the Xero integration)

Agreed that this is a great book to introduce Stoicism. This, and Seneca's works which I've read since, have been life changing for me - I think it should be required reading for all entrepreneurs, if not everybody.

How about running it as a background to the website, over say, a month, at the end of which you'd have pretty good confidence that you'd have hit all paths.

It still seems unclear. There is some allowance for their approval, but they can't unreasonably deny the substitution (which sounds very vague) "Right of Substitution is fairly clear cut: can you send someone else to do the work. Employees

I agree, I also won't support people breaking into computer systems.

Yeah, I think we tend to forget our history (since tech evolves so fast). For me, I originally had this on the BBS I hosted as a teenager. And it was something important to me as an out-of-place teenager at the end of the world in NZ - the

To me, this is one of the founding texts of our sub-culture. No, I didn't know or interact with Aaron Swartz, but his plight reminded me of this manifesto.

I wonder if Heroku's current downtime on their MyApps site is related?

I'm trying to figure out how to get Adam Curtis to make a doco about all of this political machination. It would be an entertaining and interesting watch. Surely someone on HN has his ear? Whisper the idea would you, please.

I went through a solid year and a half of depression after a cheating girlfriend and rough, isolating startup lifestyle. For me, watching videos of successful entrepreneurs would be horrible advice. In fact, HN, social media on the whole a

Yes, a great read for entrepreneurs. I think every entrepreneur should read some books on Stoicism - it's been a very helpful framework for me getting through some rough times. From a quick google, an outline of the Stoic toolkit: http://w

How dare you have fun on your website. Hacker News users are super serious, busy, important startup people. You've just disrupted my zen flow for my super productive day.

It honestly is amazing. I'm a front end dev, and have worked on some big and gorgeous sites, but damn... I've been working on startups for a couple of years and feel like the web has moved massively in that time... who ever is making this s

My experience was close to that. A year and a half on I still sometimes wake up from nightmares about it. But it gets better. My initial response was deeply rational, like me personality type, and I tried to analyse every little thing. The

I'd think the big problem would be this sort of stuff: finding places willing to let medium-term to tourists. Have you had any issues? Do you pay cash up front rather than arrears?

Is this a recent thing? I'm in the UK under a Tier 1 (a points based, highly skilled migrants visa) and can work almost without restriction (I can't be a doctor or professional sports person). Even under the working holiday maker there were

From what I've seen of both (and having used Backbone professionally), while backbone has more documentation on the web, the problem is it's a very flexible framework and it doesn't force much upon the developer, which is great. However, it

Let me clarify, as a former employee. BBC World Wide makes it's money on BBC.com with advertising. For instance, Rolex watches in banner adverts. If UK citizens were to see a BBC property with advertising on it there would be a shit storm o

Ha. As a NZer I'm not quite sure how to take that. It's pretty much sheep, some locals, and copyright infringers down that way. Having a gun for protection in NZ is unusual. That said, he's reached a station in life where some hired profess
