Yeah, I think we tend to forget our history (since tech evolves so fast). For me, I originally had this on the BBS I hosted as a teenager. And it was something important to me as an out-of-place teenager at the end of the world in NZ - the thought that we live in a borderless community of like-minded people. What's interesting to me is this disconnect between our world (borderless, egalitarian, where information wants to be free) and reality (legal jurisdiction, protective business models). It was a problem then, it's a problem now, and future conflict is certain.
