This is counter-productive for FB in the long run. When zero-rating hollows out net neutrality, what stops WeChat from teaming up with an ISP to undermine WhatsApp and Messenger? Imagine if MySpace had struck deals with network operators al

Yeah the search works well now. When iTunes 11 just launched it was a disaster. (If I remember correctly it kept trying to 'group' searches by album instead of showing individual songs.)

Agreed. I posted a couple years ago: 1999, WinAmp: type a couple characters of a song title and play it. 2013, iTunes 11: Try finding a song forever, go "forget it", hit shuffle.

What if you dynamically updated the same mp3 file instead of updating the media file URL (and changing the guid.) As far as cached mp3s that are already downloaded, I don't see why that should have a huge impact on ads. The most import

I was aware of podcasts when they launched around 2004 (and worked on some related sites) but a lot of the early hype about podcasts as a business didn’t pan out. I suspect it may be misleading to look to the past this point—the upsurge of

I suspect at some point JavaScript developers got together and decided: why say "server-side rendering" and "editable" if you can say "isomorphic" and "mutable"?

I understand (and agree to some extent with) the argument but I think the excerpted paper doesn’t work well as an example of the issue. The concluding paragraph is lucid and a bit poetic, and upon clicking the link it turns out the title (a

This is so important. Many people create async requests and overlook the state indicators. This seems harmless until the user doesn't know they need to wait for something to load, messing up their whole understanding of the widget. Rel

I think the way forward would be for WordPress hosting to come with a version of node.js with standard packages which plugins can use, in combination with the new REST API. So even if we would move past PHP we wouldn't move past WordPr

The problem is that with low scale and low growth prospects, even a profitable business can end up stagnating. Will everyone (founders, employees, investors) want to stay on? Especially in this case: the business isn’t in a high-margin nic

Exactly. The problem isn’t that we can’t believe Dorsey’s intentions, it’s that Dorsey’s intentions don’t necessarily create the reality of Twitter’s future. Whether it’s Twitter or Facebook (or others), these companies will keep changing t

The trick is to avoid looking for work on platforms like oDesk (now Upwork) where the world is underbidding you. It’s a positioning and deal flow issue. Ideally you want clients to refer you on to other clients. And maybe you should call yo
