This is one huge advantage to GMail for business. When I joined a group/company I could go and read the entire engineering@ or bd@ ML (called Google Groups, I believe) from start to finish. I don't know if other email systems do t

I don't see the difference in your #1 between email and group chat in spreading awareness other than 1. ease of absorption (email is easier) and 2. ability to respond (again, email is easier). Imagine trying to read backscroll of a cha

I already hate group chat. For my use case, it's demonstrably worse than email. I imagine for many (possibly the vast majority) this is the case. The thing is, as I've seen in this, group chat has a "cuteness" to it. Jus

Others might have another thought though when I read your comment I rolled my eyes and groaned. You basically 'well actually'ed the quote. Further, it was to point out something rather obvious, trivial and trite. Lastly, you kille

More anecdote: 8 year boy on the spectrum. I'm tech. Wife is doctor. In a traditional school, boy has challenges (also is diagnosed with ADHD). Had him test, very high IQ. Super into science (outer space, oceans, physics etc) and has a

This isn't a real counter-point, imo. This basically says "flat didn't scale, so we introduced some structure or other workarounds, though 'teams' can stay flat". That basically is called hierarchy by a differe

The sad truth is some people have completely wrecked their insulin sensitivity b/c of poor diet. I'm not saying you are one or not, just that diet is so critical to a healthy life and our "approved" western diet is a rec

You're getting downvoted, though you are not wrong. Obesity is a huge problem socially, financially and systematically (look at the cost of obesity on any social healthcare system. It's staggering). Type II diabetes has a near foo

Can a legal expert please explain to me how this can even happen? Shouldn't a judge somewhere be able to take one look at this and realize the ridiculousness of the whole thing and throw it out?

Oh, I agree with everything you just said. I was just wondering what it looks like from a career progression standpoint. If it's just titles, it's tough. What you said about those cross-cutting problems and all that is spot on and

Yes, you have a rough idea when babies are due. My middle child was born 5 weeks early, however. My last was born 3 weeks early. I've had employees send me a note a day after saying 'sorry, baby came early. more later'. If yo

That is a classic false dichotomy. You never, ever need to choose between those two things. You can have some semblance of both in nearly ALL cases.

If this statement is true and in the proper context (who knows), this all but kills my respect for Musk. It basically puts him at the same level as Jobs, Ellison and others who are just egotistical, sociopathic assholes. Look, Musk /is

One of the values in a framework, particularly in Go's case at the moment, is a curated set of libraries and middleware. Since this doesn't exist the cost/effort is high for people looking to enter. It is likely too high for

I would very much welcome this. Love the new json/jsonb datatypes and this would be a great way to use those. I'd personally prefer pg to mongo and even without the HTTP API I could see myself using it in the future, though with a

It might be just me, but that is insanely hard to read. I MUCH prefer the Sinatra approach for that reason alone. Looking at the examples side-by-side I couldn't tell what was going on in Roda...at all.

I think you're missing the point. It's common practice to sunset something. Apple, Google, Microsoft do it all the time. The fact is the support for some version of OSX has been deprecated and not supported any more. What are thos

They should probably not upgrade from OS9 to OSX or maybe not upgrade from Leopard to Yosemite. Depends on what is supported and how it runs.

Gotta love how people just won't let go and move on. Imagine if all the diehard mac users ported OS9 to OSX because "OSX was forced on them". It's called progress. Gnome2 was a dying project when Unity was announced. Gno

From 13.10 to 14.04 there are also an incredible amount of polish and small touches around Unity. If you aren't a consistent non-LTS user, you might miss them, but there are a lot of them and they really add to the experience.

Politics aside, this is brilliant from OKC's perspective. No effort, they show their users, many of whom are gay, they care. And, here we are talking about OKC on HN. Going to be the same in many other sites, social portals.
