While the drama that happened there can't be denied, it is tiresome to see Romania in 2020 still presented in this light. I've been browsing hn.algolia.com for articles posted in the past year about various countries and I think R

> To say that “many developers do not want to speak out for fear of falling afoul of Apple” is an understatement. Almost none do. And one thing I’ve learned this week — mostly via private communication, because, again, they fear speaking

You are trying hard not to understand the message. The laws change to fit what people consider right. What Apple is doing might be almost legal but it is not right and laws can be written to spell this out for them and others. Computing sho

But 50% of the smarphone market users might want to install software on they own property which Apple has clearly shown to be quite possible, if only Apple wouldn't stand in the way as the sole gatekeeper. It might not be specifically

Maybe the pandemic finally offers enough motivation for EU and US to make a strong decision about this. The (smart)phone market, for many people the only computing device they own, is utterly dominated by 2 monopolies under Apple and Google

I can confirm the only phone call I got from Apple was to explain why they can't accept my app. It was a small display test app / game which apparently is not allowed as the users might start thinking they have a defective product

I don't think deduplication can do much of a job on media files which are heavily compressed anyhow. As for Windows, that's a new one! When I think ZFS I think NAS although I did briefly had it on a laptop with FreeBSD I think.

Sadly, so true. Making money from open source is somewhere between the Hollywood aspiring actress and the fool's gold level of wishful thinking.

People very rarely donate to open-source projects or buy open-source products. Money has to come into open source from somewhere and in the end it has to be via taxes or commercial interests. Maybe BitCoin will save us? Haha. No.
