Unfortunately you still need a car. Everyone in Fayetteville owns a car and you need one to get to any real grocery store. I think it’s awesome that despite the fact that everyone owns cars, the expansion from Dickson has been done in a ped

As soon as Affinity releases a Lightroom replacement I will buy it. I've tried using the open source apps and it just doesn't feel as good on a mac.

I feel like this is common among non-tech companies. I went to college near a large grocery chain, a trucking company, and a meat processor. All three of them had the same tagline of "we're like a tech company that sells X".

It's less about actually retiring and more about not working for "the man". I know of a couple of folks who have retired in their 30s to open up coffee shops or make games.

I never read this book during my education. Would you all say there’s something to be gleaned from reading this as an engineer with some years of experience already, or is it primarily an introduction to programming?

I thought it was weird at first, but I grew to really enjoy the way they look. It isn't too difficult to figure out, because even if you don't use ligatures when you look at one you know right away it is an unusual symbol and you

I’d love to do OMSCS, but a masters wouldn’t really offer any changes to my career. I really enjoy structured learning but the time commitment for even a single class sounds enormous

Does this need to be done for things like splitting rent? I'm charged the full amount monthly and my partner sends half to me.

Amazon gives their signing bonus out monthly over the course of the year to offset the lack of equity in the first few years, so I don't think you'd have to pay it back in this case.

yep, the Seattle light rail has a much less convenient route for me than the busses, but the the train is so much more frequent (and usually isn't 20 minutes late) that I always go for the train

I think context matters a lot with these recent articles about eng salaries. Hiring any mid-level and up engineer is tough right now, and Amazon recently bumped their salary bands by quite a bit. I think other companies are now catching up.

I love having public transit over owning a car, but sometimes I start looking at houses in the Midwest and think about the massively different life I could have compared to my tiny city apartment.

That’s exactly what I was thinking. This sounds more like an opportunity to finally make gamedev an appealing job.

Super excited to try this out, I haven't played much since the alpha ended. Does anyone know how well the RTX support is? I could never tell if that was meant to be a tech demo or an actual feature.

I've always wanted to get into emacs, but I only have enough room in my life for a single set of keybinds, and vim has taken that spot. A lot of the emacs-for-vim-people projects are these huge distributions and when something breaks I

The higher end options are really only for intense video encoding, like if you're working on a movie (I wonder how many people choose macbooks that task). The basic option should be more than fast enough for running displays.

Wouldn't help much for a "camera review". The raw would just be a black-and-white mosaic that would look awful. What you want is the processed jpeg out of the iPhone along with the edited ProRAW. I'm not sure if the iPho

I’m not too versed here, does using this project to make the RPi4 handle DNS make it a router? I’d rather not sacrifice nearly half of my gigabit bandwidth…
