The worst part about all these node modules is the little small silly ones that do something really inane - like to just get the current year. I said the same thing about some ruby gems years ago and thankfully that’s a little bit sane now.

In my opinion this will negate the negotiation prowess of savvy employees. A big reason for salary disparities in the same positions is that some people simply negotiate better. It also does not account for more experienced candidates. I gu

Mmmmm…. You’re very literal here. It’s clear I mean fail more quickly and easily. Of course everything eventually ends.

Ostracizing sex work has always been the case for thousands of years in every successful culture and religion. In fact, cultures that allowed widespread open sex work have always failed. (No, Amsterdam’s red light district is not “widesprea

"A dollar a pound". A few decades ago this was in the headlines on CNN if I remember correctly. But really, there is no real reason for the GBP to be worth more than the dollar in the last few decades. The UK is a bit of a **hole,

As an employer.... I think they just want people who will show up and work diligently in the working hours. People who don't need too much supervision. People who have common sense. People who have street smarts. People who can figure

This is true. But you should probably maybe ignore most of it. Because there is more shared between us than we want to admit. I was talking to some guy here in Bangkok recently last night. He's Jewish and I'm Jamaican. It turns ou

We are put on the earth to reproduce. In general, women like taller men. Ergo… some guys with the means are gonna try to get taller. However they will be sorely disappointed as to get with the ladies one has to have a lot more going for him

Comparison is useful. Because it shows you where are are and where you could go. Life is endless comparisons. It’s like asking me to lose weight without knowing what a skinny (or fatter) person looks like. Life is also endless competition.

Yes, because people here love motorcycles. They're faster than bicycles and no effort needed for pedaling. Actually, I always (humorously) say that Thai people really don't like to walk. All my Thai friends just to go a hundred me

It's all one. The big difference is that drivers respect pedestrians, motorbikes and bicycles as having the right of way here the majority of the time. So bike lanes would be nice, but not so necessary.

Years ago wrote a language agnostic task queue in PHP. Now Elixir with Genservers that can handle proper concurrency and back pressure is trivial. One of the best is Oban, which uses PostgreSQL for the queue storage. No more celery, Redis o

Just bought a bike in Bangkok. To be honest it sat in my living room for a week because of the fear of riding it on these most dangerous streets. (Bangkok has bad reputation for accidents worldwide). But today I took it out. I rode to work

Html + CSS + Javascript in 2022 is mostly what you need. Unless your job is going to require a framework, it’s really not necessary. Maybe I’m the old curmudgeon who is more concerned about putting out something that works and get customers

Unless you’re teaching don’t waste your time. To me it smells like a vanity play, unless you’re doing it so you can get another 100k per year. And yes, I can hear the people saying education is always a good thing to have. But it reminds me

Points for the syntax and speed. However it really needs a bit of “wow” factor to take off. We’ve used it here and there in dribs and drabs but don’t see a reason to use it in a new project when there is Elixir and/or Rust. Elixir brin

We are running pg11 for fairly big databases (almost terabyte size data directory). I was waiting to upgrade to pg12 then 13 then 14. With this change I seriously think I’ll just upgrade to 15 at the end of the year.
