In my opinion this will negate the negotiation prowess of savvy employees.
A big reason for salary disparities in the same positions is that some people simply negotiate better.
It also does not account for more experienced candidates.
I guess it could push people towards similar salaries over time in the same position.
That’s why it smells faintly like socialism.
- whatarethembits 4y agoThis is a good thing. Your pay shouldn’t depend on how good you were at negotiating on interview day. People with a lesser focus on social engineering don’t deserve lower pay for same work.
- sokoloff 4y agoTo the extent that negotiation is a skill that will used productively on the job, it seems like rewarding it is appropriate. I assume you'd rather hire a head of sales who was good at negotiating than one who was terrible at it.
- systemvoltage 4y agoNegotiation doesn't work without substance. You need to be desirable in the first place and be one of the handful of people that can make a huge difference to a company.
