Manual transmissions are dead. I grew up learning to drive a manual transmission car. Awesome. I loved the feeling of driving and shifting gears up the hilly, mountainous, twisty horrible roads in Jamaica. Exhilarating! But cars got better.

My first kid just reached 18. Now I'm seriously thinking of having another one. Remember when we were younger and the world's population hit 7 billion, everyone was really, really concerned about overpopulation??? I even did not w

I love and use JSON every day. I just don't philosophically believe that it's the right thing for configuration. Too much scope for making errors if done by hand. And also if not doing it by hand, it means additional tooling to cr

Nginx is missing automated TLS services. That’s the main reason we no longer use it for our multi-tenant SaaS systems. Caddy powers our thousands of domains - although I will never be a fan of its JSON config file option, it works very very

Love Stripe. But their record on de-platforming people for dubious reasons is not great.

Quick question... Why would we really want to prevent a war between these two giant companies?

Because the old way of teaching has been broken for decades now - by broken I mean not applicable to todays world. One good thing about C19 is that it forced us to re-examine how we taught and what we taught. And I think we clearly see that

Busy really means "I have no time for you." Period. Don't try to read more into what I just wrote. Just think about it for a second. If you put someone or something on top of your priority list, then you are not busy for that

One reason is that it’s a part time job to manage one and a full time job to manage 4. Generally people put a part time job on the back burner and focus on the main full time job. Just speaking from experience.

Sometimes I wonder if it’s better to subscribe to a queue. As a person who uses webhooks from a variety of api’s there are upsides and downsides to them. I suppose the same could be said for queues - but it strikes me there is a certain amo

More and More above the fold content is coming from google sites. That’s not gonna change. Especially if you’re searching for local services above the fold will be ads then maps listings. I get it. But that blog post is some 1984 shit. Haha

I made my team fully 100% remote in September 2019. Hah! Then covid hit. The entire team was safely at home since then. BUT. I have to say while its a nice perk for the job (typing this from South East Asia), productivity is less than what

It’s not such an easy thing to describe. Yes we join on indexed integers too. The thing is, we believe as the amount of data changes the planner will give different instructions. Even after lots of analyzing and vacuuming. It’s happened so

PostgreSQL text search is awesome - for English and Roman type languages. But Asian languages such as Thai, Japanese, Korean, etc are not going to work at all. PostgreSQL is weird about joins. Joining on certain columns could be super fast
