But this is a forum of interaction between people. These models can and should do things privately. It's the difference between arguing for censorship in HN or Microsoft Word.

I can generate many violent prompts right now, and the model knows the face of hundreds of celebrities (you would think they would garble those to prevent PR disasters). It knows what the 9/11 attack was, it knows about nuclear bombs,

However, it looks like the model wasn't trained on NSFW keywords anyway, which means it is permanently impaired in that regard.

With a 3090 it's about 10s to generate a 512x512 image from another, maybe less.

I think the 5% odds are an underestimation, because Carlsen will change his focus now and won't spend time preparing for the World Championship. He will likely also prioritize risky wins vs safer draws.

In Biology and Physics at least, the professor owns the data because they funded the project. They also have final say about authorship and can remove you from a paper at any moment, with no recourse.

Yeah, I find it really weird that people are seriously entertaining this conspiracy theory, when the more mundane explanation is that, on average, tech workers generate insane profit.

Do you also believe we have too many teachers, or that they are not needed by society? Or, maybe, there are other factors that determine wage?

And can you publish your ground breaking research without being authorised by your boss? Can you even continue to do it meaningfully if he or she refuses? If not, then you are definitely not working for yourself.

You are your boss in these regards, but you are very much not your boss when it comes to a world of other issues. While I enjoyed the freedom, I experienced all sorts of abuses from higher-ups and my career was harmed by how lopsided the hi

For most other fields, the salary for PhDs is 65% or 50% of these numbers. Considerably lower than median salary then.

No, but really: Facebook collects very private data, including personal messages. Google has even more sensitive information. I also don't see why suddenly TikTok is such a concern, except for sinophobia or pure misinformation.

If we define less suffering as living 2x longer, with 100x less child mortality and access to education, safety and entertainment that not even kings in previous generations had, then we should thank technology for that. You can of course g

That makes no sense. Most stuff you consume is not produced locally. And even then, why would I want to be a local firefighter or whatever if some other people get to sit on their ass every day?
