The etymology of that sense of "fluke" is from the game of billiards. It's when you make a successful stroke by accident. And yes it was a lucky stroke for journalism that the same newspapers that carried their words happened

It was a fluke that it worked so well for so long.

So are nearly all security vulnerabilities. Is bypassing the lock screen a security bug?

Isn't that the point of reserving something like .internal? So that people don't "borrow" a TLD that could get assigned to something else later?

The polls implied about a 20% chance of Trump beating Clinton too. I guess I'm not sure what you're getting at. That seems like the perfect example of not a sure thing.

But those things at least partly explain the apparent irrationality. PredictIt charges 10% fee on profits and another 5% fee on withdrawals. So bets that have the potential to earn a few cents on the dollar aren't necessarily worth it.

What a clever strategy of spending the money they were allocated in the ways they were directed to use it.

Yes, though it's usually the founders coming to that realization and not the professional investors who are supposed to know better.

If investors wanted information rights they should have made that one of the terms.

It's actually even less successful if that's the metric. The people who care about how it works are mostly on Masto. BlueSky has a dedicated user base, but it's not among protocol nerds.

Client testing is a fair point, but I'm skeptical of the claims that plaintext improves bounce rate and I don't follow how it improves security unless you mean exploits that target the HTML renderer itself.

Insofar as that’s true, I do not think I want plaintext. Especially if it’s a message that would otherwise have inline links or images or any sort of rich text. I would like the content of my emails to be memorable. Not an unusual UX. Maybe

What percentage of Americans live in a community with 600 or fewer people? There are very few policy decisions that will be universally good for everyone. That doesn't automatically make them bad policies.
