I tend to enjoy sports and manual labor, so end up sweating all over my glasses a few times a week. Because of this, the oil removal process is the piece in which I'm most interested. I have used a glass cleaner spray bottle (which was

My Indonesian friend introduced me to tempeh, which has to be one of the most versatile (and healthy) foods. You can toast it for a quick snack, but it disappears into nearly every type of sweet or savory dish, or it can be the main attract

I absolutely agree that we should be conscious of privilege and (dis)advantages that we've had in life. I also agree that the focus should be on improving income, and being able to answer "yes" to all of the questions in that

Oregon State has approved the dosing of psilocybin during therapy sessions, but only to be administered by licensed therapists. So far, there is quite a bit of evidence that two sessions of psilocybin dosing in a controlled environment does

The first episode was rough, there are some stellar sketches and acting after that though. I'm only to episode 4, but I love how their writing and acting has grown up a bit. The apocalypse DJ really got me.

I'm pretty sure that caffeine doesn't increase most people's productivity. Any mental performance ascribed to caffeine in studies is always due to removing withdrawal symptoms. It doesn't increase them past their baselin

Twitter is definitely a bad place for nuanced discussion. I disagree about the 'and al', though. Other platforms are much better for for long form communication and open discussion, e.g. Reddit, Zulip, etc.

As much as I worry about online bullying (not quite legally hate speech, but obviously hate speech) and also misinformation (anti-vax, etc), I think that anything that squelches the ability to have open discussions on any topic is wrong. I

If people are participating in social media, then by that very nature, it doesn't qualify. If people want to yell "Fake News" on social media, then, they're participating in the debate.

Leveraging social media to create a divide is a symptom of the problem. The underlying problem is the sheer amount of money and power to be gained by winning in America's 2-party system. So much so, that winning at all costs is the no

Absolutely. All he needs to do is dig up the 100 million dollars he has buried around his yard so that he can scale to the point that taking a 300% hit on materials doesn't affect him. Or maybe he should spend some of his billions to b

Interesting takeaway from the paper: The paragraph titled: "Airborne longevity appears similar for different SARS-CoV-2 variants" and Figure 4. So they take strain into account, and it doesn't seem to effect things. Note I&#x

That's my hope as well, but I think it's mostly wishful thinking. Best case: Omicron gives everyone a baseline resistance, so that future mutations are more like the flu. We'll get new mutations a couple times a year. Some wi

I'm not a virologist, but I interpret "omicron has a likelihood of 88% to escape current vaccines" as being rather ineffective. I've not found similar stats for Delta or other, but the authors of this paper seem to indi

I think the issue is that public policy is based around two flawed notions that omicron has brought to light: 1. The vaccines will become decreasingly relevant, unless we can provide technology to update vaccines as quickly as they mutate.

I agree about the vaccines. I misstated. I should have said "vaccines don't stop (or apparently slow) the spread of the omicron strain". Vaccines do help reduce the severity of symptoms, though. I guess my issue is that a lot

You are correct. Murders in most cities matched or exceeded their previous records from the 80s or 90s. But the population in most of those cities is almost double. The population of Portland has increased by 92% since 1987, but the murders
