I have an i7-2600 (32nm) still in service and it's shocking how well it keeps up with modern tasks. The cheapest current Ryzen you can buy would destroy it benchmarks but you'd never notice day-to-day.

w3m is my go to console browser. It does a better job displaying a site in a coherent way than lynx (IMO). I should add a lynx/w3m useragent test to my site and display images in AAlib for text browsers, that'd be a funny easter-

I thought about running `stress -d` on it and letting it go for an hour/day but decided I'd rather just label the drive "BAD" and keep it in my junk drawer. Sometimes tasks don't require reliability and I'd ra

Over the summer I had this idea I wanted a full linux install on a USB stick I could move from machine to machine. Years ago I had splurged on a really nice Sandisk Extreme 64GB (200MB/s+) and so I installed to that. After installin

I've been carrying a Sony TX100V in my work bag for I suppose 11 years now. I'm on my second one. It has staggeringly good macro capabilities. I've had two 8x10 prints done this year and they're amazing. It's a 2

We print out worksheets for the kids almost daily so we need a printer. I bought the cheapest HP laserjet that had an internal paper tray and it's been fine. I'm pretty sure I bought it in 2018 and we're still on the starte

I ordered a replacement toner cartridge for our HP laser printer in 2019 when it reported it was low. We print a few pages a day on average and the new one is still in the box... I haven't even had to take it out and shake it.

We only buy physical movies on DVD because that's what our minivan can play and that's the only time we need a physical disc. I thing the general reason is just cost though, I'm not going to spend $25 on a disc I'm only
