Terrific piece and in many ways I'm nodding along. As a 50yo with 2 teenage kids there's lots here that resonates. On the other: "Television, The Drug of the Nation" was released in 1991 - there's always been much a

I guess I'm fairly relaxed about it - I mean, I can tell if it's going to rain imminently because it ...feels like it. Don't get me wrong, I did love DS and the accuracy was insane - it's just that my wife pointed out th

All of that, apart from the transit system thing - we don't have a lot of infrastructure where I live :-) But - am I affected by the weather? Nope.

Sure. All the time - I'm a runner, a walker, I have teen kids who like walking, we have a dog. But is any of this really changed by knowing it's going to rain? Nope. I stick my nose out on a morning - if it's cold, I put on a

I live in the UK. In Cornwall. By the sea. So there's nothing whatsoever predictable about the weather round here :-)

My wife often asks me "but why would you care about the weather?" and I have to say that over the years I've either been ground down or simply come to understand her way of thinking. Yes it's sort of exciting to see grap

I had the unfashionable but actually pretty cool Amstrad CPC464. I wanted to play games but also program. Hacking games was also much fun: figuring out how to give yourself 100 lives and so on. Many weekends were spent typing lines and line

This was in a frame above the bath when I was a kid. It sunk in - I've always remembered it and can recite it pretty well even now, 40+ years later. I think it's a lovely bit of advice :-)

I saw "generate clutter..." in the title and thought "why would I want to generate clutter?" I know it's a minor point but I'd go "Remove clutter, ads and trackers from any article" for a stronger ini

I've been impressed with Yunohost [0]. I only have it setup on an internal box for now but it works well, and super easy to use. Good for people like me who aren't interested in admin. [0] https://yunohost.org/en

I'm wondering if the AI component here is actually a bit of a red herring. I've been actively using Kagi[0] for the past few months and what really works brilliantly there is the notion of "lenses", AKA "per-site&qu

IMO, I don't think this is a hard issue, at all. I don't think it's partisan, either - although it's (as ever) being wrapped up as such. It seems to be blindingly obvious. Culture, art, writing - life, in fact - is of it

Comparison is pretty highly rated as a factor for misery - I'd agree with others on the thread - better to consider yourself as yourself. Are you happy? Is the role fulfilling? Are you having fun? And then - given all this, are you ear

I'm going to sound irritating and glib, but to stop doing something you've got to have the will to stop doing it, and then...stop doing it. Sure there are tools out there to help and techniques and blockers - but ultimately there

That's a nice idea - point a script at a CSV file and generate a bunch of flat files for each item using some kind of simple templating language. I might take this back to the guys at the Platform and see if we can do a POC for the cl

I really like Omeka. It's a very cool project and we did look into it early on. Really though we chose WP because it's ubiquitous - no lock in, very powerful, easy for editors to use. With the right nudging it does all the things
