> There is absolutely a need to protect a population from itself which should cover certain stuff No, there isn't. I'd much rather live in a world where we were able to make our own decisions about personal safety, regardless

> children getting fucked up by hardcore porn What evidence do you have that this is a reasonable concern? I've seen plenty of hard-core porn since the age of 10 and turned out just fine. I don't know anyone in my generation t

Not sure if this reply was meant for me, but I've never even heard of databricks until today. I had just taken a look at their website. At my company we just use a large self-managed postgres server and I access it directly.

I don't see that much gay porn on there. The most popular threads seem to be teens that may or may not be 18, trans girls, chubby girls, and girls that you know personally. Then there's the AI porn which is often furry or childr

What exactly is a "data platform"? We have a large postgres server running on a dedicated server that handles millions of users, billions of record updates and inserts per day, and when I want to run an analysis I just open up psq

How is this company worth even 1% of that? Their product looks like basic wrappers for managing postgres instances and dashboards. Why would anyone with even minimal technical expertise pay for a generic service like that?

Most people find work that directly addresses their basic needs fulfilling to some degree. Things like growing your own food, hunting, building and maintaining your home, etc.

Perhaps there are more original or precise sources for the ideas. I've read Jacques Ellul, for example, but for someone not well versed in philosophy like myself, Kaczynski is more accessible and well known. I don't agree with ma

Do you really want to live in this "post scarcity" world? With no effort required to meet your needs and desires, what motivation will you have to do anything? Kaczynski's warnings seem more apt with every year that passes.

He's not "obligated" to do anything but it's still immoral to abandon maintenence of something like that. If he can't be bothered to maintain it, then he should delete it.

And this is why I always prefer anonymity, whether it's in online discussions, contributing code, or even casual dating. Otherwise one mistake or the malignant intent of another can cause irreparable damage to my personal reputation.

That seems like it will be largely useless. Sure, the masses will continue using a bugged WhatsApp. But anyone with actual interesting/llegal things to say will switch over to an open source messaging app that hasn't been bugged.

But the "digital crack" isn't what the government wants to restrict from children. They want to stop children from accessing porn, which really isn't all that bad. Certainly it's not nearly as bad as wasting hours

I think you're taking it too literally. A more generous interpretation would be "what it does can be a better indicator of what the true hidden motive was for nefarious state programs".

What kind of services will use this app? Unless their governments start issuing Android devices to all of their citizens, I don't understand how they can require use of this app for anything official.

I've never driven an EV, only a hybrid a few times, but I thought for all cars with aggressive regenerative brake settings, you just kept the accelerator pedal slightly depressed to coast.

That's a whole lot of assumptions based on what? I could come up with a list of plausible sounding reasons why regenerative braking leads to less tire wear. Unless you have some actual measurements, I wouldn't trust either one.

Even if everyone drove optimally, every road is going to reach a capacity where its physically impossible to maintain a certain speed. It's similar to network congestion. Mandating that everyone drive faster won't solve anything

Easiest solution is to just use LibreWolf on desktop and IronFox on Android. They get rid of all the anti-privacy defaults.
