I think the muddling of roles is what bothers me about it. In a workplace, the responsibility is reversed. You're the opposite of a customer - you're an employee. Here, customers (and honestly, what they are getting vs. what they

Also, after considering this further, I think the only reason these schools would not attempt an actual prohibition on the app itself is that it would be very difficult to enforce and they likely don't have the IT capacity to do it. It

The way colleges/universities work in the US is so odd to me. There’s so many contradictions: - You pay for a service where the amount you pay far outweighs the value of the service, by orders of magnitude. This is allowed because the

I have an Apple Card and it’s my only credit card. I like the integration with the app and the support when I’ve needed it and I think min/maxing for points or rewards is stupid. It’s why I don’t have any Chase or AMEX cards. It’s a bu

I hit a point where doing my current job just wasn't an option anymore. I was so unhappy, they could have been paying me 1 million a year and it wouldn't have mattered. I got there from a combination of feeling like I wasn't

WordPress serves as kind of an ad hoc CMS for many different kinds of backends. Because it’s easy to extend and a lot of people are familiar with it. When I worked at the CDC, the entire backend of cdc.gov was a heavily HEAVILY customized v

Articles like this are part of why I love Hacker News so much. I've done a little investigation into producing hardware myself and concluded it was just too big a task for someone without the background who didn't want to put up a

To be honest, it's really hard to articulate to people that still live in the United States. But it feels like the country has turned rotten. You feel it any time you interact with a customer service person. Restaurants, stores, especi

Something I hate about stuff like this is people who work for media publications assume everybody else on the internet is like them. It reminds me of the Gawker days. They're all blue checkmark types and assume the world's discour

Yes. This is the way. Once you use stores you realize how complicated state management was made. Redux in particular was so dogmatic about it. So much boilerplate. State is ephemeral. There’s no reason to need one global store.
