I will be surprised if it is a good investment, but... go Google! $5B would just be a drop in the bucket to take on something like that, I'd imagine.

Good idea! If it helps, I liked this site- maybe it might give you some ideas for things you could add: http://www.peacecorpswriters.org/pages/depts/resources/resou...

I drink because it helps me relax and stop thinking about what the idiots at work and in our government have done to my life.

From what I've understood, Sun didn't license everything to IBM (or for that matter, to others as you stated). Charles Nutter had a great post (and it has been updated) on the Oracle suit against Google where he talks about some of the wi

Look nice but: - Needs to have a search (that lists sections found, lets you skip between finds, etc.) - Needs index, even though tabs are nice - scrollbar in middle of page != friendly (use vertical space in page and page scroll)

Oracle can't and won't kill the platform. They are certainly doing harm to Java, but Oracle hasn't sued IBM yet over this and there is quite a bit Oracle would go after if it were truly intent on killing the JVM: http://en.wikipedia.org/wi

"do you think that there will be many new ones?" Yes, I think there will continue to be some new projects, and other projects will fall off. Apache isn't the end-all be-all of Java projects, however. Several of the larger newer projects wer

I think the author is just taking advantage of Java's name having been drug through the mud by Oracle to push his point-of-view. Many of Apache's projects are Java-based, and I don't seem them making any effort to port all of them over into

Sounds like something that would be a parody of of a geek store in a sitcom or movie. So good if that's what you are looking for. Meh otherwise.

Questions: - How much money was wasted? - Did tons of newly printed tags on clothes need to be manually removed and retagged? - Who was responsible for the creation of the new logo and who made the decision to use it?

I wish this could be done server-side. In Rails maybe you could put all of your images in one directory, as an initializer or on demand it would create a sprite image, and it could automatically handle the rest as well.

If the phrase is altered, short and generic like "There's an app"(no-tm) rather than "There's an app for that"(tm), I don't see why it wouldn't work. I didn't see anything in the article about "There's an app"(no-tm), only "There's an app f

Limit the reward for voting badly and increase the chance that you'll get publicly and anonymously hand-slapped. On HN and StackOverflow: 1. These are not places that non-techs would tend to frequent, and they mostly evolved into more serio

That's because: * Boomers are old and have grown their fortune enough to spend some of it. * Younger people have to worry about kids going to college and an unstable economy. You think we'd be spending right now? Fat chance.

NY Times articles usually fall into one of three categories for me: 1. good, 2. closed-minded liberal that thinks he/she is open minded but really hates Republicans and everything they stand for, and 3. pompously intellectual. This fell int
