Sorry I was probably being overly pedantic, I do understand the concepts of REST and the JSON format. I've never seen it as one buzz phrase though.

Finally something in Australia with possible potential. No information on pricing other than a monthly fee + transaction fee. I'm not sure what a JSON REST API is though. What does "scheme" in the JSON response correlate to? I'm also not su

I believe what tptacek is trying to say that an attack on the == operator is not a timing attack but a brute force attack. Sure the function may return quicker but it doesn't reveal any more information and will be a brute force attack of d

This naively assumes that your entire userbase uses those services and would like to attribute their Google (et al) account with your service. This may not always be the case. Someone has to store the passwords, it would be good if there wa

Processors get faster and faster, so we increase the work factor to compensate and keep it a time-hard problem. This has no real restriction on memory though, so the amount of memory only has to grow linear to the amount of time. Making it

> Fictitious? Did you read the rules in the original post? Yes. The grand parent post isn't talking about these rules per se, just a fictitious example of HR and bad password practices.

We've moved on to a fictitious setup. I was so disgusted with my bank and their password policies and authentication measures. They too restrict to 8 characters, but they happen to also offer a SecurID token. This token can be used in conju

Does weighting of posts (only in hot?) take into account the amount of 'spent' upvotes vs the size of the overall subreddit? I do notice that a the 'top' ranking seems to fail when I am subscribed to a number of small subreddits and a few b

How does this compare with what can be considered a 'gym' addiction. Is it ok when it is exercise? What is too much? What about work, startups? I rock climb at least 6 hours a week, it's not bizarre to hear someone dying from rock climbing

This is probably true, rails is more 'community-developed' then the aforementioned plugins. I'd say the average developer is more inclined to open and debug these plugins than rails itself. Which is what the grandparent comment is referring

Rails and Ruby can have a little magic thrown in that makes it potentially difficult to debug.

Your second point makes no sense, bcrypt factors are manually increased and require a new write for every item in the store. If we time capsule the SHA1 hashed db of passwords and the Bcrypt db for 10 years you cannot prove that the SHA1 da

I never really liked the way pointers are declared in C/C++: int *a, *b, *c; // a, b and c are pointers to int The reason is that I am used to reading variable declarations as MyType myVar1, myVar2, myVar3; and I always read “int ”
