Thanks. Not many have signed up for it but probably a quarter that many have told me this is a cool idea :)

Hah, I’ve been thinking about exactly both of those things! $79 is the ballpark I was gonna aim for too. I’m thinking the YouTuber audience might be a good place to start. People seem to “get it” right away, but nobody knows about it yet.

Last year I built Recut[0], a native Mac app that helps speed up video editing by automating the rough-cut process. It finds silence, gaps, and pauses and removes them, creating a cut list that you can import into editors like ScreenFlow, F

Amazingly well done, nice work! The mind-blown moment for me was when I typed `cat my-` into the terminal and hit Tab, and it actually tab-completed the filename :D Nice touch.

Feels like, at this point, anyone in this situation surely knows what's gonna happen. They can't say it publicly, though, or at least, definitely not during the announcement! I can just imagine how that would go... "Today we

Testing-library uses jsdom across the board, as far as I know. It might support running in a full browser too but I haven’t used it that way. For end-to-end tests with a real browser, Cypress is a good option.

Yeah, but I think putting it in the worker was about making the timer able to “go off” at a specific time, while the page is backgrounded.

There’s svelte-testing-library [0] which follows the same approach as the React flavor. It emphasizes testing the app “as the user would use it”, which boils down to rendering components and inspecting the DOM. They intentionally don’t give

Thanks! I like the Speech framework idea. I've toyed with it a bit and the results not so great, especially offline, and the online one has some limits. I think if I want to properly add transcription I'll need to integrate with s

Something like that. I could base it on frame-to-frame changes, or if my app was doing the screen recording, I could look at keyboard/mouse input as another signal of "non-silence". I'm pretty much looking at silence rem

I've been thinking a lot about this problem myself! Making screencasts, I realized most of my editing time was spent cutting out silence. If I recorded with that in mind (staying silent between re-takes), the editing became pretty stra

I think the title is a bit confusing. "We are building a better Heroku" implies some sort of announcement that Gitlab is adding a new service to their offerings, and that's what I expected when I clicked. This is more like a

Yep, pandoc is great! I used it to write a technical book. I wrote the text in standard markdown and used pandoc to convert to PDF and ePub, with MOBI handled separately (by Calibre). That plus a handful of ruby scripts to do some markdown

This project is also 100% less javascript, since it's written in Swift :D I tried the scripts first, and wrote one of my own too, but I built this because I wanted more interactivity.

Yeah, I’ve had the same experience. I really like the Salt Fat Acid Heat [0] book for this. It does have a section on recipes, but a solid half or more of the book is on technique, why certain ways work and others don’t, etc. Lots of stuff

Oh yeah, the cut list is exactly what the app does now :) It can export XML, EDL, or a ScreenFlow project. That was the first feature I built, and the main thing I wanted. I think the video example demos better, but to me, the cut list is w

Yeah, good call, I’ll add something about this. Right now it uses AVFoundation’s “highest” preset which seems just about as fast as the “passthrough” one I was using originally, so I suspect it’s leaving the video (mostly?) alone. I’ll try
