Yeah it's interesting how newer cultures syncretise aspects of much older ideas like that.

I once spent a load of time making a "galactic civilization simulator" (in C!). First it spawned a galaxy of stars using RNG. Then it seeded civilizations at different home stars throughout the galaxy. Then it iterated an algorith

There's a fantastic film about TV Licensing called The Duke, I highly recommend it: https://inews.co.uk/culture/film/the-duke-review-jim-broadbe... > When the film opens, [Kempton Bunton] is refusing to pa

Yup. I worked 3 years and 10 months (yes I just checked) before I was first hired as a "Senior Software Engineer", by a very normal desktop publishing development company, in 2007. Not via LinkedIn, nobody I knew was on it back th

I’ve worked on some huge nodejs projects, it’s a great language for “serious projects”. It has costs and benefits like any other language. If you use TypeScript then IME many of the costs are mitigated. What exactly makes JavaScript so unsu

Finding bugs maybe sure. Further up this thread someone commented about “images getting cut off” on Hypership. It’s feedback but it’s not valuable. Feedback from real users who are actually trying to execute tasks with your product is valua

Such sites that do not allow Apple passwords I now skip as a user (unless it’s a government site), it says enough about how you view security and there are plenty of competitors that don’t do this

I stumbled across a website (think it was a CRM or CMS, I’m evaluating a lot at the moment) that wouldn’t accept an Apple generated password the other day because it didn’t comply with their password strength rules. These days that’s the ki

The Mars Direct book is worth reading not only for things like transport and mission design but also a wealth of other good ideas about how to “live off the land” when we get there too. Truly worth reading for anyone remotely interested in

A game like GTA has way too much functionality and complex branching for this to work I think (beyond eg doing aimless drives around the city — which would be very cool though)

I don't think it is. Getting arbitrary access to corporate support ticket chains seems pretty high impact to me? Isn't that a gigantic data breach (also probably a GDPR breach) already, before you get to the Slack takeover?

Eh I much prefer my Model 3 to my wife’s Mach-E because of the longer range it has. Even with fast chargers on the motorway it’s inconvenient to have to stop regularly to charge and delays your journey. 450km is nice for the Netherlands; if

That's not entirely true. Waymo have remote control operators, these would have the same - you don't need 100% foolproof autonomy to operate a fleet of cars like this. I am also highly sceptical of everything about Tesla's pr

My Tesla still beeps at me because it thinks I'm about to drive into pedestrians or parked cars because there's a bend in the road. I honestly think at this point Tesla's FSD AI is way, way overfitting on a few US cities.
