Our app is down because it's hosted on Heroku and it's frustrating because it seems like N Virginia is the least reliable Amazon datacenter. Every year it seems to go down a couple times for at least a couple hours. Heroku should offer a c

Simple yet brilliant. I love the simple design and clean user experience. Emailing me when I've checked in with my boarding pass is extra nice as well. Well done, Nikil! I was just buying a Southwest ticket and was complaining about havi

Just bought the course and I'm downloading some of the videos because I watch most of my videos on the go (ie., in the car or on my ipad). First impressions (ie., first 60 seconds on the course), it really seems like something created for a

I've been following your blog, podcasts, comments here, etc and learn a lot from you. I've gotta say you hit a big need with the email course, and though I wish the price was $99 I know you're delivering based on value and the course is pr

I was looking forward to this announcement and watched the live announcement. The most interesting/surprising parts of the announcement to me was: 1. Superchargers are already deployed in California. Nice work, Tesla, for building it out

Agreed. Maybe the author can do a quick 1-minute video demo highlighting it in action. I need to be more enticed before installing anything, even a plug-in.

I was at the Apple Store yesterday and also noticed the front glass isn't flush. Was a bit disappointed but reasoned that it's still a beautiful phone. I think it's a stretch to say Steve Jobs would have not allowed it. There could be ot

Craiglist might be an example of a self-funded growth model that was able to scale. Maybe rare, but possible.

Another option is if you need time to build your product, you can launch another "something"... like the legendary mvp video from Dropbox or the finance blog from Mint.com they used to draw in signups several months before launching.

I'm curious if PG encourages a "discovery" stage where they don't have growth targets but rather are learning about the market/customer and building a product? And if so, how long of a "discovery" stage is encouraged?

For a startup measuring users (not revenue), what's the right thing to measure to know your growth rate? Is is DAUs, MAUs, daily sessions, length of session, total signups?

True, but as a 3rd party spammer/marketer company why would you think Tiny Post is going to be huge? Usually you'll need some indication that this is the next big thing, or at least that this app is taking off. I just don't see Tiny Post h

Interesting article and insights. I'm wondering if there's a hybrid model where you can enjoy both - high LTV AND high viral co-efficient. Or if that's unrealistic. Maybe Ebay?

B2B/enterprise would likely be covered in his first point about having a high LTV so you can invest in user acquisition.

I don't believe they're making money as of yet. But they drive a lot of traffic to eCommerce sites and they can find a way to monetize by promoting products. Just like Twitter/FB are doing sponsored posts, they can do something similar.

Definitely agree. Android tablets are vastly improved with 4.1 and project butter. Kindle Fire 2 is still choppy and sluggish from the preview videos I've watched. It's too early to dismiss Android tablets.
