> So what do you do with kids whose parents refuse to vaccinate? Well, there are rules for parents failing to send their kids to school. Ultimately authorities can take away guardianship from the parents.

Yep, I said as much in another comment. The downvoted comment I replied to was still right -- the issue preventing MS from migrating comments doesn't appear to be liability due to a lack of filters, which isn't even part of GDPR.

Not sure why this is being downvoted. "If you don't have a system in place to automatically cleanse user-submitted content, you have a liability" is indeed not part of GDPR as far as I know, nor does it seem to be the reason

Couple of responses to that question here: https://devblogs.microsoft.com/oldnewthing/20190313-01/?p=10... Basically the old accounts couldn't be carried over and so users wouldn't be able to log in anym

The feature has been there for years, i.e. you could always enter a magic character to restrict awesomebar searches to tabs. Problem is, people didn't know the magic character, so hardly anybody used this feature. It's more access

The default is the default and this UI doesn't change that. It allows you to have a default, yet still use the other engines on a one-off basis. It's not limited to google either, e.g. I believe amazon is offered by default as wel

It had been blocked by webrender if I remember correctly, now the work on fixing this issue has actually started. Markus Stange is a capable engineer as well so there's hope.

Using Opera only superficially sidesteps the big Google problem, as you still contribute to the Chromium monoculture that reinforces Chrome's dominance and benefits Google.

Opera is also closed source and has been bought by some Chinese consortium, so that may not be the best option if you want to get away from Google for privacy reasons.

The home / new tab page itself is local. The snippets at the bottom of the page are loaded from a Mozilla server.

Working for Mozilla, I feel I should be able to make sense of these hints, but I can't. I have no clue what issues or missteps were deal-breakers for Steve, apart from the compensation issue. Any organization of the size will have

Why hint at it at all then? Without details it won't satisfy the curious nor help fix whatever problems there might be. As someone who still works for Mozilla out of conviction, this feels like an unnecessary low blow.
