When journalists fail to adhere to journalistic standards they should be criticized for that. What's your point?

I'm sure it's not just you but you could still be wrong. :> What you consider alternative / independent journalists could be charlatans by journalistic standards. It's hard to say in the abstract.

It's not just plain communication. Facebook controls what you see and their algorithms encourage rage because it gets users engaged.

This my be true as a rule of thumb. Different rules apply to monopolies (in most developed countries anyway), as different dynamics come into play and hinder innovation.

I think Linux is quite a bit different. Firefox shares its space with applications that have the same privilege, making sideloading into Firefox much easier, especially on Windows. And then Linux is also niche enough as a consumer OS that i

If by third-party you mean unsigned, then yes, I think that's incorrect.

Where did I assert something similar to your example? It seems like a false analogy. The criticism wasn't even that my logic was flawed but that the same argument could somehow be made to justify any user-hostile action. If the problem

You said "exactly because of choice of third-party addons" and that's what I'm questioning. I'm not questioning whether addons in general are important for a significant share of users.

Quantum changed the API model, not whether you could install unsigned addons, so that's a different discussion.

We have telemetry data on performance, user retention, installed addons and how these things correlate.

Sure, you can always claim that some random lockdown is vital. The thing is, not every assertion is the same. Yours could be nonsense while mine could still be true.

How significant? Firefox' market share was falling rapidly. (It still is declining, but not as dramatically.)

No? First of all, I'm saying that allowing sideloading is actually hostile to the majority of users, and I'm also saying this threatened the very survival of Mozilla, so this needs to be part of the consideration.

Well, it's actually a been big problem for Windows, and installing unsigned software on Windows is harder than it used to be. Also, luckily for Microsoft, installing another OS is harder than using another browser. (I say using, not in

Your first paragraph reads a bit crazy and I imagine that's why you're being downvoted, but as you're expanding your idea in the second paragraph I think you might have a point.

It's not gonna happen. Firefox would be dead by now if it still allowed bad or incompetent actors to make Firefox unusable (as in slow, unstable, and btw insecure), because users wouldn't keep up with that for too long. They'

Not all proteins are the same. Also keep in mind that it took humans some time of evolution to be able to digest cow milk.

It's unlikely that there's a corporate decision behind this. I wouldn't even call this a corporate platform. Let me copy-paste a comment from further below that deserves more attention: https://news.ycombinator.com

Where do you live and why are US drones a reason to criticize Israel? You're right that the term is a bit nebulous, but this isn't a new problem. E.g. criminal law already treats terrorism differently in many countries. As is ofte
