Apologies if this becomes a re-send! Overall-size heterogeneity could be partially epigenetically-driven right? I should try to read the paper, but I'm not a biologist. I've been listening to Michael Levin quite a bit though, and

Totally sibling comment confirms it already exists! I hope that the 'shader' name sticks too! I find the idea of a shader has a very appropriate shape for tiny-program-embedded-in-specific-context so it seems perfect from a hacker

It definitely sounds like hype not reproducibility! And although I'm a giant fan of Eno I really think the current cutting-edge is in the demoscene in terms of generative art..

And once you've landed, Ambient 4, 'On Land'? I wouldn't usually comment in such a flippant way but if anyone discovers this album because of it and loves it as much as I do, then it's worth it!

The "HackerNews Hug" I believe it's called.. indeed being on the frontpage and being (or just looking) interesting does direct a huge amount of traffic at servers! I'm just so glad that HN seems not to be getting paid (o

Awesome! reminds me of the tight-audiovisual sync style of the demoscene, but in hardware? Hope it gets explored some more!

I'm not sure that logical/abstract argument is the right way to progress on this.. seems like it really isn't abstract and must eventually be something that would need to be measured and compared to prediction in order to dec

I think there are a few 'fringe' modern-ish physics projects that actually do suggest that space could be made from something, and can flow (which can provide an explanation for gravity and relativity) Reg Cahill's "Proc

Golly comes with lots of example patterns and also uses 'hashlife' (as long as you leave it enabled!) so can go very fast and really huge: https://golly.sourceforge.io/ And if you're into that I'd defini

Gamete cells get a random half of all genes from each parent so there's about 2 unique possible 'sets' from each parent, and 2*2=4. However because it's random I think you can only say there are 4 distinct completely uni

I do agree overall with this! Houdini is a bit like a brick-wall at the very start for many people (myself included). However for the HN-crowd I'd expect it wouldn't really be heaps different to picking up a few (ok maybe 6) new p

I agree it's a fair question to compare humans and flies, indeed we are ultimately not very different: both multicellular and individual (wavefront/particle-wise) beings.. I guess the size of the 'agential' goal-radius i

Yeah definitely see mallow around Adelaide quite a bit too! The photo for what the article called thistle looked a bit more like a dandylion-of-sorts to me, I'd usually expect thistle to be spikier, but maybe this is what young ones do

I am not a color scientist, I do work in VFX though. Pixels and their generally-vector-valued contents are what we've mostly delivered to our clients for many years. I'm not code-shy, but I haven't worked on our color pipelin
