I was actually quite glad while reading this when I realized it wasn't trying to make-time-a-dimension! Sometimes it seems to me that ppl are cool with just making a float4 out of x,y,z,t and still think everything will work out fine!?

I couldn't agree more, and that's from much experience working in VFX on tools/code and contacting SideFX support a lot (mostly by email) It's just been some astoundingly good support! I hope they last forever, and if th

I find it slightly odd that SideFX aren't part of this. They have worked very closely with Pixar on integrating USD into Houdini in a new subsystem/type of network called 'Solaris' / Lops. It is a very deep and powe

I don't think it's gonna help with the design side of things but USD does include a volume primitive type in its 'UsdVol' section: https://openusd.org/release/api/usd_vol_page_front.html So it

I agree it's not lossy-compression that's the problem here.. I think instead it's usually better phrased in terms of 'aliasing'. You can think of using a better (more care, attention and listener-adaptation) method

I do love Gentoo and have had it as my home OS for ages. I like to describe it as "the patient person's Linux".. it definitely provides many learning opportunities and sometimes roadblocks however if you get stuck, the IRC ch

I love image FFT! Quite some time ago I implemented it (just a wrapped FFTW) as a plugin for the 'Shake' compositing software that we were using at the time at RSP. It was tricky but incredible fun and like a mini-superpower! Peop

Not an expert but I thought it needed the 'power set' (set of all subsets) but maybe that's kinda the same as exponentiation in the end?

I've read that males have a different risk to reward ratio (not in every species but in many, including humans) especially in terms of reproduction. One male can in-theory have many more offspring in the same time period than one femal

I mostly follow the PC scene, and I'd recommend checking out demos by Fairlight&CNCD, MFX, Kewlers, Orange, Still, Quite, Logicoma, and if you're into those then check out other groups that get 'greets' from these on

I can totally see why digital artists would get value from this! I work in VFX and have found that after watching a shot on loop a few hundred times (over weeks) it can be quite helpful to watch it 'flopped' (horizontal mirror), w
