That's the best part: if you have access to the source SVN repo you can change history and there will be no evidence that you did so. History in Git, on the other hand, cannot be modified without it showing up. The reason is that in Git ev

Actually the cameras are much better. If nothing else, it removes the need for about 80% of the police force in most places.

Walmart doesn't typically do sales. What they do do is force vendors to drop prices every year. Can anyone on the inside confirm if they inflict this on Apple (who probably get around it with yearly refreshes) or if Apple is strong enou

Link? I'd say your ID is too big (pg has an essay on it). If you say Lisp is crap, I'm not going to be offended even though I think it's a great language. It's something I use, it isn't part of who I am.

15 million a piece. I don't know how long they were working on it but the very top billed actors tend to make, what, 20 million for movies that take ~3 years to make.

This isn't "fact checking", this is just more US propaganda spreading. Do you really think you're going to get a neutral, purely factual account from a member of the US military of all places?

Who cares? Nearly all US politicians are complete idiots (often insane people). What matters is where a given politician stands on issues I care about. What are you afraid he's going to do, outlaw evolution?

All my posts were objective. If you find them trollish then I'd say you're too sensitive about it for some reason. You can say what ever you want about Lisp and I wouldn't be bother, for example.

He's saying "The lady doth protest too much, methinks". You don't have this problem with Python, Ruby, C++ or even C. I certainly don't see a "C isn't dead! Really!" post every other week.

If you want a scripting language you'll save yourself a lot of pain by starting with Python. It's also on OpenBSD isn't it? If not, I'm sure it's trivial to install it there.

I think Lisp is still mostly the same as it was in the 80's and even before. But Lisp was always incredibly powerful and still has ideas that haven't reach mainstream yet. Unlike Lisp and COBOL, Lisp still has a few more things to teach

The proper response here is for artists to stop producing until society decides art is worth paying for. Begging like a homeless person is not a business model.

Personally, I find pre-commit hooks to be a throw-back to older RCSes. For modern systems like Git I would prefer to have a pre- merge hook. That is to say, commit any old crap you want to your local branch but you're not merging with th

This has to be one of the worst analogies on the subject I've ever seen. To fix it we would have to invent a device that can scan something the plumber has done and then recreate it on demand. At that point, after years and years of studyi
