Oh, yeah. She would never leave me over something like that, but I definitely got the look . If it was a matter of money, I know she would totally understand. But in her mind and essentially every girl I've ever met, it's a diamo

I tried to explain all that to my gf, but she was having none of it. It was either a diamond or hit the road, Jack. Proposed to her last Saturday with a shiny diamond ring, she's now my fiance, so I think it was worth it.

No no no, that's bullshit. A properly designed font isn't just the outlines, it's the outlines + spacing. Type designers spend almost as many hours perfecting the built in kerning as they do creating the outlines themselves,

It's cheeky, but then again it is a project you can show someone. Graphic designers get to make fancy schmancy resumes to impress their potential employers, so why not programmer? Better make sure there are no bugs in it though.

Easier in the sense of less data, which would make it faster. One of the issues with encrypted video chat is that most implementations have a max amount of people you can chat with because of the computing overhead.

Wouldn't something like this be easier to encrypt for transmission than normal video? Plus, in the case it comes up, "that ascii representation doesn't look anything like me and you can't prove it was me." I like it

I agree with you about the great content for humans bit, but that doesn't mean that you shouldn't still aim to maximize your current traffic through technical means. If it gives you a whitehat traffic increase of even a few percen

I agree. I took one look at their test and thought: That's missing the point. They actually don't care if the title tags would hash differently, they care if the title tags are descriptive of the content in such a way that the pag

I hope that was sarcasm, because that's the most Big Brother thing I've ever read on Hacker News. Don't question authority. Trust Google. Trust Facebook. We'll make the decisions about your personal property in a way tha

I work in a newsroom. Now that investigative reporters are essentially classed as "terrorists" by the powers that be, encryption of email is now a legitimate concern. But I and everyone I've asked say that in an ideal world,

I have the opposite yet same reaction to open office environments. I was always the loud person in the group, and I have a hard time staying out of conversations with others. I try to keep myself to myself, but I know that I distract others

This was published in January, and look at all the Mars mission stuff that has popped up since. I wonder what a follow up would read like? I'm guessing they're using his Mars algorithm?

I'm no scientist, but would there be a way to combine this with solar panels to also produce electricity? It seems the goals are counter to one another, but it would really be amazing to accomplish both with one panel.
