I think a lot of that is in the presentation of the tutorials and the documentation. There's a book on Oreilly called "Lightweight Django" that strips away all of the absolute non-essential cruft of Django and starts from scr

What's cool is that there is a legitimate push to make Jinja a first class citizen in Django, with other third party templating engines being available via a new API.

Unless you have open a bunch of tabs, like I typically do. With multiple tabs, Firefox is easily the best performer. Chrome is the only app I have on my Macbook Air that pushes it into overheating, turning it into a lap-frying iron skillet.

I have no comment about CUPS, but I will say that I find this site to be pleasant on the eyes, even if it is just bootstrap. I feel like half the reason people don't want to use Debian or GNU stuff or other free software is because the

The other end of the spectrum is the Stack Overflow method, which ends up with the most uptight and pedantic users ending up with all the control, who use their power to rain havoc upon those who might otherwise have been much better modera

Exactly this. That money is already done and gone, with little to no benefit to the children themselves. Such a shame.

He mentioned in the article that it was live data (like Chartbeat or GA Real-Time) they were looking at, not aggregate (like regular GA). Nevertheless, you're correct, and watching the peaks and valleys and plateaus between the differe

Once the courts had ruled, why didn't/doesn't the Corps cooperate with the scientists, e.g., letting them study the actual spear tip? At that point, they have nothing to lose. In fact, if they simply handed the bones off to t

My nephew and his friends are 8-9 years old, and they're masters at building this stuff. The redstone, the logic, the machines, all of it. It's all they think about, all the time. Imagine what potential this early compsci educatio

This is great. I recently ditched my iPhone for the cheapest samsung phone T-Mobile had, and I regret it about 50% of the time. I like having it when I actually need it, but the rest of the time I feel my life slowing slipping away.

I've used this in the past. Good, well-written library. The stdlib datetime/time modules are such a PITA sometimes.

Who downvoted this? This is exactly what LinkedIn does. You ask to be connected to a third party through one of your pre-existing connections. If you get connected to someone with a huge network, you can then connect with even more people w

I do face swaps at work all the time, for kicks. I'll have to try this out. (I also have to superimpose real images together sometimes, not always just to put someone's face on the Incredible Hulk or whatnot.)

That diary is a fantastic read. The language, the drama, the bird's eye view of one of the most pivotal moments in world history. Beats fiction any day.

The phrase "A font for programmer, by a programmer" is a disservice to the many fine folks at Adobe and elsewhere who manage to not only be type designers, but also programmers. There's a lot of code that goes into making a g

Besides Firefox, iTerm2 is my most used app, by far. I love the customizability of it, the Visor mode, and how stable it it to work with. I've used it so long, I don't even remember why I don't use Terminal.app any more.

I would rather have a bot written stub than nothing at all when I search in Wikipedia. Like it is mentioned in the story, some subjects are under represented while others are super saturated.

The problem with the Socrata stuff is that it is garbage in, garbage out. Case in point, my hackathon group helped hook them up with our city and our entire event was based on hacking this data. But the city basically did some straight sql
