i mean, sort of? There is some subtly lost in this oft-repeated advice. i've worked at 3 companies now that were initially based on a single RDBMS but have outgrown the scale of what is reasonable to serve off that architecture. They a

Yes and no - the incoming ban will force investment in downmarket EVs, helping make them cheap. If it works as planned then it won’t actually need to be enforced by the time the clock runs out, because EVs will be better all round. Funny li

Well said. You can browse through the replies in the threads on this post, and see where all the cost questions go unanswered. Cost and the basic economics of trying to run a really expensive power source at a fixed high price over 40+ yea

They will become cheap though. As manufacturers move downmarket and the used Ev market grows. Maybe even cheaper than gas in the end - simpler, more reliable etc

Long distance and refueling will be solved by 2035. They’re close now. I’m will to bet all new gas cars are going to be internet connect too, it’s already heading that way, and has little to do with EVs

They don’t want WFH taken away from them, the dog is just an excuse. I don’t blame them - employers reasons for forcing people back are typically equally as weak excuses.

yeah, its sort of the unintended down side of pay equity / transparency movements. Very little room for discretion anymore, gotta be "in band". For better or for worse. I think its mostly for the better, but yeah thats the wa

Hybrids are ok transitionally, but will ultimately disappear due to charging infra becoming ubiquitous and because hybrids will end up being a lot more expensive to build than a pure EV.

Yeah that’s what I was trying to say: > It doesn't seem worth it to me - if you are actually doing BadThings and your account gets closed, i'm sure you know why. Hiding the reason is such a woefully small inconvenience for actu

This is such a tired repeated take. More EVs == more demand for charging stations == lots of businesses and tech rising to fill the charging needs, to make money. It will solve itself, it’s basic market forces.

well im comparing it to a natively distributed database, like for eg dynamoDB. I've worked with truly massive dynamodb "instances" and you really dont have to do much, they arent fragile, they just work. I don't necessa

Yes and no - I think people also underestimate how miserable running a single giant RDBMS can be. Everything gets hard and dangerous - backup/restores, upgrades, online migrations & schema changes. Adding the wrong index can easily

ok but that just re-asks the same question - if you remove the people-doing-nothing factor (by firing them) then what is the motivation for RTO?

That's frustrating though. Just put those folk on notice, fire them if they dont improve, or fire their managers if they cant fix the problem. baby, bathwater, etc.
