We don't have a water shortage problem just like we don't have a food shortage problem. We have a water/food distribution problem. Throwing away a burger in the US takes nothing away from Africa.

I agree with you, but understand too that the ability to capitalize on lucky breaks is not something we're all equally positioned to do. This is where poverty starts to feel a lot like a trap. If it's all you can do to keep your h

I had a job like that for a while and would work on project Euler problems just to pass the time. It was maddening.

That's a strange thing to say in an interview. If I were hiring a junior developer, I'd favor the applicant who has more life experience and would assume them to be more grounded and reliable than someone in their early 20's.

What does your CV look like? You're getting a lot of feedback about your website, but I doubt this is what hiring companies are getting hung up on. Using a website to showcase some of your work is great, but your CV is what's goin

I find myself dreaming in code far more frequently if I've left a problem unresolved. I never end up finding resolution in sleep though, and the problem I'm dreaming isn't usually related to what I'm actually working on.

Yeah, happens a lot if I go to sleep without enough down time after coding. My dreams have me going over code that is needed to perform some kind of dream action, like sitting, walking, or whatever else. I'll often get stuck in a loop

It's a challenge for an employer to support or train a junior developer remotely, which is probably why these jobs are harder to find. They do exist though. I started out working remotely and loved it, but I know I would have grown m

I'm not a Trump supporter, but it has been really frustrating to watch the Buzzfeed crowd paint all Trump supporters as misogynist racists. My facebook feed has been loaded with articles about how white men failed the feminist movement

Personally, I think it would be a more valuable learning experience for the students if git basics were intentionally not taught in a class but still required. As a professional developer, you're going to have to figure out how to do

Framing unpaid days off as "buying an extra holiday for the cost of a days salary," feels depressing to me. I would personally have a hard time working for an employer that used this kind of language around their time off policies

Yeah, parenting can be kind of a balancing act. I think there is a valid point that your posts were getting at which is it's important to give your kids the space to make their own decisions and learn from their own consequences. The h

I'm going to venture a guess that you yourself have never raised children. This is classic armchair parenting advice that sounds good to the philosophic mind, but falls apart in the real world. If you've never raised kids, you pr
