As far as I can tell, they only just figured out that a lot of people ingest THC by smoking it. Horror of horrors, this changes everything. So fine, then. Why don’t we just make cigarettes illegal as well? As in, serious intent-to-distribut

I’d love to hear more about this story if you’re willing to talk about it, although I can imagine it’s something you might not want to revisit. I’m very curious about how in the world the guy thought he could covertly steal a $7m product.

Unsurprised. It was just a matter of what scummy behavior the new owners were going to demand, and how egregious they were going to be about it. It’s simple, at least for me: block the garbage if I can, forgo the site entirely if I can’t. A

Reminds me of the story Andy Hertzfeld wrote about how his frustration with his boring job title led to a number of folks at Apple opting for more interesting titles. https://www.folklore.org/StoryView.py?project=Macintosh&a

Damn, this is a good one. I wish I'd thought of it. Not sure if anybody smart has officially defined "ragestyle" as a term for products where the primary selling point is fury, but I think this category is going to be huge, a

I think it's a bit early to be claiming that iOS impression loss has "stabilized". I'm the first one most of my friends come to for tech questions, and I make a point of explaining privacy issues to them and helping them

Or these ad companies could come up with ways of making money that people don't want to block. I despise ads, and generally approve of anything that makes ad companies sweat, but it didn't have to be that way. We are where we ar

Agreed. And I have to wonder if online extremism would be less of a problem if sites like Facebook switched to a payment model. State-sponsored troll farms might be willing to pay for access, but most regular-Joe crazies/griefers proba

I agree. My guess is that Apple suspects it can't be 100% effective at preventing apps from tracking, so they're trying to set expectations accordingly in case someone figures out how to track users anyway. But yeah, my preference

If people opt out of what you're doing to them as soon as they're made aware you're doing it, then perhaps that's a sign that you shouldn't have been doing it in the first place. I don't even believe that 25% o

Reading through these stories, every one of which is fascinating, I’ve never been more glad that my job does not involve doing anything where the consequences could be summed up as “Tokyo stopped working.”

If I'd thought that's what they meant, I would have reacted differently. Perhaps I misinterpreted it—I'd agree 100% that most employers are not nearly as understanding or generous as they should be regarding disability leave.

Yeah, I get on a technical level why this stuff gets flagged—it’s not tech-world enough, and I think a lot of us are here to escape Twitter—but it’s still pretty weird to see these significant issues dismissed as off-topic. I dunno, maybe t
