Marvellous article. Bill Evans' playing is one of the great consolations of life. For anyone who likes guitar, I also highly recommend Ralph Towner's lovely Nardis interpretation on his great album 'Solo Concert'

I've never spent any appreciable time 'navigating with a mouse' and 'adjusting window borders' on other OSs. Sounds like those thundering imprecations that we all must use vim or emacs because IDEs require mouse use

There is a general rule that the more time people spend futzing with some particular aspect of their shit, the more they fetishise it. It's a kind of cognitive sunk-costs fallacy. I've used i3, and it's great. I wish somethin

A vast radical social experiment, replacing all human values with that of competitive & monomaniacal accumulation of material wealth, turns out to be a poor fit for actual humans. Well gosh.

Seems like a reasonable personal story about how you use an ad-delivery platform like iOS (and is pretty close to what I do on all the platforms I use). But it has little to do with the rightness or otherwise of disallowing users from decid

Not really - it's eliminating competition. Apple is stopping competitors (web apps) from displaying any ads, and enforcing ads through the channel (App Store apps) it profits from.

The rules are designed to enforce the delivery of ads. I agree on the no surprise aspect. Adguard allowed users to expunge ads, Apple has many policies to prevent ceding such control to mere consumers.

A couple of weeks into f/t use, mine (XPS 15" 9570, i9, 32GB RAM) doesn't get hot at all (fairly typical dev stuff - Docker, VMs, browsers, IntelliJ). It throttles intermittently, for short periods (perhaps 5% of the time) un

I have the new 2018 9570 with an i9, and throttling is very modest. My workloads tend to be bursty rather than sustained, so I probably wouldn't notice in normal use anyway. But running the Intel XTU stress test, I only get very short
