This is timely, in the middle of restoring a Mac Classic - looks like something fun for it to do.

The opening line strikes a nerve... gadgets really are no longer fun. Everything has been virtualized and abstracted away into a sleek, inoffensive, but boring rectangle we are forced to carry around everywhere.

Can we not link to kotaku? The actual source is eurogamer and far less editorialized: https://www.eurogamer.net/roblox-studio-boss-children-making...

Kinda hard to incentivize when a responsible credit card user will come out ahead financially by using a rewards card. I get roughly 2k a year in rewards for doing nothing more than swiping.

Really impressed with the custom firmware people are developing for this radio. The one I am on now is written by egzumer and even comes with a spectrum analyzer. Unfortunately, the radio itself is about what you would expect from a $30 imp

And also served as the inspiration for the "true" sequel, Chrono Cross. I have fond memories of emulating Radical Dreamers on my Pentium 1.

Props for holding onto them that long! There is a tendency amongst our kind to chase the new and shiny, it is refreshing to see someone who knows their needs and is content with what they have.

Did the author really upgrade from a X220? If so, wow what an upgrade. These caught my eye but my Linux computer is a T480 and despite the i5-8350U getting a bit long in the tooth, it is still going strong. I did upgrade the memory to 32GB,

I pre-ordered one... it seemed interesting as a concept and it was cheap enough to be in "toy" territory. Worst case I have a device to hack on with a really stylish case.

I do this... work in NC, commute to DC each week. Grab a hotel a couple nights and drive back. I was a remote worker pre-pandemic then my company recently mandated RTO with no exceptions. Sucks but not going to find a higher paying job loca

I was really tempted by this but I hesitate to move my workflow over to Windows. I hear WSL has gotten pretty good, may be worth a shot.

I know it’s hacked together and cheating a bit, but still love the spirit of the project. Not everyone has the electronics experience to do things “authentically”, and if projects like these serve as a gateway to “the real thing” - I say al

This is the use case I really want to pan out... but so far have been disappointed. My latest attempt was the Quest Pro, and while the virtual monitors were useable for the first time, they were something around 1080p and the latency was to

As an aside… I am been amazed lately at the Bluetooth range I do get. I remember when the technology was in its infancy and it was extremely short range… like same room no walls if you are lucky. These days I can leave my laptop at the dock

If I was single and living in a city, would likely do the same. The realities of rural America don't allow this though. Not only do you need a vehicle, depending on how rural you are, there is a good chance you need a truck as well.

Does it get a decently close shave? I use a razor every other day because I haven't found anything electric that gets that "clean shaven" look. Definitely open to not having to do that.

I had this same problem... both the AirPods Pro and Max gave me a "pressurized" feeling I wasn't comfortable with. I found the 2nd Gen Pros to be significantly more comfortable, not sure why - your milage may vary.
