They can't make an x86 one because Intel holds the rights on it and only AMD has a license to do this (there is a history here). Also I wouldn't be surprised if one actually could not build anything like M1 (at that power usage) w

Docker Desktop uses Hyperbisor.framework to run an arm vm, which runs arm containers natively, or x86 containers via qemu (in the arm VM).

Being nitpicky here, but the canonical representation of "containerd" is all lowercase, as in the logo.

VSCode has completely solved the complexity problem at the interface layer. It is quite literally like you are running it locally (because you are), but the commands are executed against a remote backend. Extensions are managed per host and

Docker has dockerd running on an M1, but there's some other things surrounding it that improve the experience that need some work. https://twitter.com/justincormack/status/1331965304273047553

Neither ebpf or io_uring are "specialized", in fact they are specifically not specialized which is what makes them revolutionary (along with being better than currently specialized apis like aio).

Docker For Mac is based on "Hyperkit" which is based on xhyve. So xhyve has a fair bit of mileage on it.

Don't forget, we just went through the same thing back in 2001, as it relates to governmental power grabs, and it is pretty much why we are where we are today.

Right, but this also pretty effectively killed off other OS's on pre-Intel Macs. Look at the BeOS story. They ported to x86 because Apple stopped sharing hardware details.

This ship already sailed before the Intel Mac days. Apple shutdown all the Mac clones, stopped releasing details about the hardware, etc.

Unless I'm mistaken, the rendering engine on iOS would only be WebKit, and whatever else safari provides. No alternative aloud. So it's ui/features on top of, essentially, Safari not real Firefox.

All (-ish?) the core images have arm variants, and no need to change your "FROM" for those. Docker itself does not currently work on M1 Macs, though.

I'd worry more about the security of the control plane itself rather than the shared kernel. For instance Heroku has been doing shared hosting forever, but they are not using a generic control plane. Even with a vm based runtime bugs i

I'm a Docker maintainer and have been for years. The default is terrible. It got into 1.0 and just got stuck there :( Changing defaults on such widely used software is, unfortunately, hard. For whatever reason Docker prepends rules. Th
