I've always considered emojis to be an abuse of the unicode system: the purpose of unicode should be to standardize universal languages, not to let companies like apple push arbitrary vendor-specific crap onto everyone else. Not just t

I think the economic decision making eventually trickles down from banks and insurance companies who actually do the math themselves and charge building-owners/mortgage-owners competitively. It's sort of an continuous invisible ha

Okay, but wouldn't a hydroelectric dam encourage people to build in areas that would be otherwise unsafe, thus putting them at risk of a terrorist attack on the dam?

The internet did not have to overcome network effects in the same way that cryptocurrency has. If there was a "super-centralized" network that already had major success (for example, imagine a world in which teletext or something

I don't know about Handshake, but GNS isn't block-chain. As far as I understand, it's a distributed hash-table: https://www.gnunet.org/en/gns.html

Tor is free too, and it is distributed enough that a single node won't rat you out to your local gov. Even if you are setting up your own VPN, I recommend installing your own tor infrastructure instead. It is simply stronger than a VPN
