Yes of course. In a corporate environment, you would usually install the proxy server's CA certificate in your certificate store and validate that all certificates were issued by the proxy server. My original comment was just pointing out t

The problem here is that if your app is deployed in a corporate environment, it's possible (likely) that the corporate firewall is intercepting your HTTPS traffic and returning a different certificate, issued by the IT department. So if you

Not to sound harsh, but what's described here sounds totally believable. Someone who loved Sparrow on Mac wanted to bring it to Windows. He got the blessings of the developer to do it, was even lucky enough to have a few meetings with them.

How is this even possible? Firstly, they've spelled the name of the infringing product incorrectly. Secondly, it doesn't even do what they're saying it does. OK, I mean, it's possible , but is anyone taking this seriously? Does this lawsui

I completely agree with him on this point. I had a friend ask me to install a Korean keyboard on their HTC the other day (I think it was an HTC One). On my own phone (Nexus), I just install the Google Korean IME from the markplace and it wo

Anyway, I would say "--ignore-certificate-errors" is an acceptable workaround here. If your proxy is already intercepting all HTTPS traffic, then there's really no benefit in the client browser also verifying certificates. Of course, I woul

This is far more common than you might expect. You just need to push you're company's internal CA to all your client computers, and bam , MITM for everything!

The quote from Isaacson seems to fly directly in the face of the rest of the article. Clearly Apple and Facebook were not on very good terms for a long time. It seems a really long bow to draw to say that Apple didn't create a competing soc

I did something similar recently for a game I'm working on[1]. I didn't know it was called a Markov chain, but one thing I found is that if you take the two previous letters to generate the next one, the results are a little less random a

It kind of annoys me that we've got all these "kind-of, sort-of" related stack exchange sites for programming and whether one question belongs on Stack Overflow, or Programmers.SE or cstheory.SE or whatever is often quite hit-and-miss. But

I used to use MarkItUp but eventually moved away from markdown altogether. I found I had to keep tweaking the parser to allow stuff like inline, floated images, code blocks with language-tagging (for syntax highlighting) and so on. It came

If what you say is true, then Viacom shouldn't care if DirecTV pulls it's content. But given their retaliation, it seems clear that they do care and the value-add really isn't all that one-way.

Yes, you're right. And thinking about it, I think projectedoptics's solution is just better all-round anyway - why can you connect to the OBD at all while the alarm is armed?

That makes sense, but I can see the argument that not all features need to be open to consumers.

Isn't the solution here that only BMW authorized devices should be able to connect to the ODB? Or is that already the case? I guess it just takes one unscrupulous dealer to upload their certificate.

But there are numerous examples of "swipe to unlock" right here in this thread. By qualifying that with "major OEMs", you're just moving the goal post.

I don't really understand what's the problem here. YouTube don't want him to do what he's doing, so they've blocked his servers from accessing their site. Isn't that pretty much end-of-story? Maybe it's true that they can't legally threat

This came up not that long ago on Hacker News. If the article headline is posed as a "yes/no" question, the answer is "no". http://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=4092880

Yes, this happened on my development MySQL instance and also one of my production instances of MySQL -- but not another one that I have. I'm not sure why it only affected one, maybe different versions of MySQL?

I think you're right. If this is only changing addresses that only have Facebook as a source, then it's not really a problem with the phone. But if it's changing addresses that are in your Gmail contacts (say) then it's a serious problem.

I'd say that particular use case is rather uncommon. It's not that wired ethernet is never required, just that wireless is perfectly acceptable for the vast majority of users.

Actually, when I read the headline I thought it was going to be about websites who make you download PDFs to read what could easily be presented in HTML as well (restaurants always seem to have PDF menus, for example).
