I understand some of the reasons why some managers think that way, but you can't have such simplistic rules. An ultimatum like this is an opportunity for a responsible manager to talk and rethink, but it seems like Google jumped at the

Yep. IMO the mistake that a lot of people are making here is to think that iOS devices should be more like computers. They are popular and successful because they are less like computers. They're arcade machines, VCRs, appliances, an

Firefox made the right call, they were never going to succeed against Android. Looking at statcounter, Kai has not been able to resist it either, dropping from somewhere over 4% to under 1%, while Android sits at over 95%.

This is obviously very sad for the folk being laid off from Mozilla, and they have my sympathies and best wishes for finding alternate employment. Separate to that, and I realise I'm shouting at the sky since this is just one comment a

It might have had some neat technical designs, but it is not a good idea to try and launch an OS into a maturing market, which the smartphone market clearly was by 2013. It never works.

HEIF/HEVC aren't completely open formats though, AFAIR. I'm pretty sure there's some kind of patent royalty involved in some things people might want to do with them. That alone makes them incompatible with GNU's id

There's no "if", notarization has already happened. As of a few months ago, macOS Catalina warns users if an app hasn't been notarized. It's the latest step in a multi-year effort to make macOS a little less of a wi

Apple ships close to 200 million iPhones a year all with their custom ARM CPUs, fabricated by TSMC. They ship about a tenth as many Macs. I'm pretty sure they can handle that growth, especially as one of TSMC's biggest customers.
