The fundamental problem though is that companies want to discretely inject these overly positive reviews. If users can identify these “paid-for” reviews, they will most likely treat them with distrust. I really can’t see a way around this.

As a speaker of mandarin (Chinese wife) and having lived in China for a year, I really resonate with this. One thing I try to explain to friends is the observation (and generalisation) of the tier of social behaviour. In short, if the perso

I absolutely adore the Air. I do a lot of remote HPC coding and typically just connect to the cluster via SSH. I have a monstrous desktop at home for when I'm back. To me the Air is magical because it has a balance of my exact needs: p

My one little life hack for the morning procrastination is this: Always make sure you have set yourself a simple task to complete/continue the following morning. It gives an achievable goal that can help kickstart your working flow for

Kimchi is one of those things that might seem slightly off putting on the initial taste, but god lord it’s addictive beyond that point. I don’t know if anyone has the experience of making it themselves but I would definitely like to give it

This exists in most major cities in China and it’s absolutely brilliant. Such a quality of life improvement.

You sign up to the Alipay/Wepay services using a bank card. Money is transferred from the card to the payment account using the transfer credit interface in the app.

I think that people outside the field have the wrong understanding of what physicists do. I think you make a good point about models and assertions. However, I would like to add an important point: we are data driven. Hard evidence is the m

My partner is finishing their masters in China currently (native Chinese). The levels of cheating that go on within her course alone are mind boggling: 1. Girls asking their would-be boyfriends to complete their essays and attend modules. 2

I’ve lived in China and speak Mandarin too. I’ve always hated the fact you need a photo, but I was truly disturbed when I went with my girlfriend (Chinese) to have hers done. Even she was uncomfortable with the level of photoshop used. It l

And this is why in China it’s a breath of fresh air; everyone (almost literally) has WeChat and it is trivial to send money to another person.

I upgraded my iPhone 6s+ from 16GB to 64GB in 武汉市 (Wuhan) for 300元, which is ~£30. The process took around an hour and the phone has worked perfectly since then (3 months ago). It was quite spectacular to see messy workstations, rough and b

One of the things I noticed about living in China is the noise difference due to the illegality of riding petrol motorcycles in the cities. It’s a really nice change. Too bad people beep their car horns constantly.

Having lived in China for the last year it’s pretty much 99.8% ebikes. Petrol motorbikes don’t make an appearance except in very poor areas.

I’ve actually got a set of these and I have to agree that they are fantastic to write with. The plastic tips have such a nice friction, well, at least to my personal taste.

As a general response, I would point out that the entry requirements to study Psychology at University are lower than those of more 'hard' mathematical subjects, such as maths and physics (at least in the UK). During their period

I think a common flaw in these kinds of bold statements is the use of the phrase “The West”. There exists a multitude of different nations, each with different political structures and vastly different social opinions but, most importantly,

Well then, might it be wise to realise that “why are you here” is a question that is based off perception? A generation of financially secure parents have pushed the mindset of Degree==Job. An understandable choice, based on the idea of att

Personally I believe this to be the correct answer. I've lived in 4 countries in Europe and China and only in the latter is it perfectly acceptable to be loud and noisy on public transport (and in general everywhere). I love China, but

Personally I don't think it's too bloated. However, its an absolute storage hog ~ My WeChat is taking up 2.4gig of storage space. I guess thats the issue of audio messages alongside the ability to send full-quality images.
