The performance of DO has absolutely nothing to do with a dedicated box.

At the time I was working on my startup Defensio and just didn't have time to maintain AjaxWhois. Traffic was high, I was getting love letters weekly but I felt I was I wasn't worthy since I couldn't give it the attention it

So let me give you a hint. I am/was the guy who made AjaxWhois back in the days (a similar site, one of the first). It was hugely popular and I was making thousands a month (totally passive) with it until it got acquired and went to sh

8 threads per worker on MRI? Isn't that a recipe for disaster? Or maybe I'm missing something?

Hey Evan, I keep reading how Puma is meant for be run multi-threaded on JRuby or Rubinius. Would it be non-sense to run it in "cluster" mode (multi-process) under MRI 2.0? Similar to how we'd run Unicorn, for example. Any ben

I think you're actually missing the main reason why people use Passenger: ease of deployment. Not having to manage Unicorn forks, processes, sending USR2 signals etc is the reason why I use Passenger. I personally couldn't care less about t

I've also been using CircleCI for a few months and I can say that it's been excellent. When I needed help, then founders were super helpful and fast. Congrats guys! Can't wait to see what's coming next.

I've been playing with browser uploads for a few weeks now (including S3) and was too worried about the complexities of uploading to S3. I realized that there's nothing really fancy going on when uploading to S3. That's only true since Amaz

I assume you mean the black bar problem? It's a bug in iOS when you try to resize images client size. There's no workaround (besides disabling client-side image processing for iOS) AFAIK.

Don't assume people will go as far as trying your app to find out. Most people don't understand the difference anyways between the app and marketing site.

Also, your site TOTALLY needs to be on SSL. With the green bar. Even the marketing site. You need to instill as much trust as you can. Show me some fancy logos of why I should trust you. At the very top of the page. Trust is your biggest pr

To be honest, I don't see how "pay what you want" is any better than free. I'd A/B test this, but my gut feeling is that charging a flat fee will lead to much higher conversion.

My feedback would be that "free" makes me extremely suspicious. How do you make money? Selling my information? I'm not saying you are, just that it makes it sound like some kind of scam. I think you should charge a low flat fee. $15 perhaps

Maybe I'm wrong, but I think Haproxy only supports NPN and not SPDY itself? I'd be delighted if it did support SPDY out of the box!

Gives me confidence in going with nginx for LB. Was the lack of a web ui (like haproxy has) ever a concern? How did you keep track of dead servers behind the LB?

Having SSL termination on a single box is definitely a big plus; that's how I wanted to do it as well. Did you miss Haproxy's web ui? Does nginx have any way of reporting if a server is down?

I'm really on the fence between Haproxy or Nginx. I have used Haproxy successfully in the past, but I'm tempted by the simplicity of Nginx, especially now that it supports SPDY. Would like to hear people's thoughts on using Nginx in "real l

I feel like "retina" is the kind of thing that's just a "really nice to have" at first, and then you simply can't go back. It just makes every non-retina display look crappy and low quality, in my opinion. For example, I'd love an iPad Mini
