Just curious, which software do you recommend to monitor SSDs life span/upcoming death in production? Can something like Munin do this out of the box?-

I personally would use it on top of something reliable like Fastmail. I mainly use Gmail over IMAP and it's painful slow and glitchy. If what you're building could give me a great UI on top of Fastmail for when I want to use the web, and ac

This looks great! Would it be possible to add the total estimated cost for retrieval? At first sight it looks like downloading at a slower rate is substantially cheaper although it is not. I think this would give a better idea to your user

This is great! Thanks for open sourcing it. What do you use to track conversion? For example, % of emails opened, % of users who engaged in a certain action after going to the site from the email?

For those looking for a dead simple alternative to Chef or Puppet, I wrote Shoestrap. It's a pure Bash, no-BS set of scripts. Doesn't have all the bells and whistles of Chef, but it might be enough for your needs. https://github.com/cmer/s

I've been using Norbert's Gambit for a few years to avoid these hidden fees and I saved thousands. It's extremely easy to perform as well. Anybody converting money should look into it. More information here: http://www.finiki.org/index.php

I used Beanstalkd for a few years and I can testify that it's an awesome piece of software. That said, that was before Resque and Sidekiq existed. I now use Sidekiq for my new project since I'd rather not reinvent the wheel. I suspect most

You only need to open 1 udp port afaik. That's what I do anyways. Opening a high port in the 60000s is less risky than 22. You should probably remap ssh to something else. Or you can use ec2 security groups to limit access to certain ips.

I now use Mosh exclusively over ssh. It's great on slow connections as well as on fast ones. For example, I can start an ssh connection at home on my laptop, drive to the office and resume like nothing ever happened. One of the best discove

It actually came pretty close in ~2007. We were working on something else spam-related and when we noticed that big bloggers were fed up with existing anti-spam solutions (false negatives/positives) and were about to just remove commenting

Actually, the sophisticated bots typically target platforms, not websites. So if your website runs Wordpress, you're much more likely to be spammed hard than if you custom-built a comment form.

I was in the business of fighting web spam for over 5 years (Defensio) and while these techniques help, they're not the definitive answer. Spam bots are now extremely sophisticated and have been able to execute Javascript and "read" and und

Seems like Hetzner might be a great fit for you: http://www.hetzner.de/en/hosting/produkte_rootserver/ex4s 60 euros buys you 2x3tb of storage. It's raid 1 but I guess you could ask to have it raid 0.

Hi all, I posted this offer a week ago so now's time to award the domain name. I decided to give the domain name to runeliger since his idea struck a chord with me, and since I think it'll be a great fit for the name. He/she said that the p

You should write a tutorial on doing such a thing. Especially the part where you bridge Objective-C and JavaScript. Perhaps I'm mistaken but there isn't much documentation on this online it seems.

It's more than inconvenience when your whole service is down because some database queries take up to 30 seconds to complete (and often time out), and when replication on some servers is days behind (and some are up to date). We also had to
