I love a little bash script as much as anyone, but the official GitHub CLI is a better choice here, as it handles authentication with the API much more smoothly. Even if you just used it to make authenticated API calls, it’d be preferable t

There is a gotcha here if you use: set -o errexit Because *any bash arithmetic expression that evaluates to zero returns the exit code of 1*. So this works: #!/usr/bin/env bash set -o errexit i=0 ((++i)) ec

> Yeah, S3 compliant buckets work, but that's the simplest example possible. Agree; you can’t just say “give me a queue”. You need to tune in-flight messages, processing times, FIFO or not, dead letters — the list goes on. These det

I guess the charitable take is they’re just collectibles. As someone who has a moderate interest in collecting physical things (such as vinyl records) it’s hard to understand why anyone would enjoy “collecting” an entry in a data structure.

I’m mostly shocked that you can spend $64,000 on a Dodge Challenger. Sorry you had to deal with that, sounds like a nightmare.

It’d be great if act could build its container images locally instead of downloading them through a rate-limited pipe from docker hub. The full size image (~14gb) takes the better part of a day to download; I’ve never been able to wait it o

Maybe on Amazon. But many quality brands also do blanket 25-30% off sales on their own sites, which is pretty much the best deal you’ll see all year.

I mean, even like J̶e̶n̶k̶i̶n̶s̶ and Kafka were barely a year old in 2012. Hadoop wouldn’t be replaced by Spark for 2 more years. Mesos was in its infancy. Other companies had similar problems to solve, and they also had to build it themsel

It’s not encouraging that even the most common use cases for these systems still have rough edges. The Google ones do support named timers, so you can say “start a pasta timer” and later ask “what’s left on my pasta timer” etc. I thought Si

I read this as they built the “tools” (automation, orchestration, monitoring, etc.) for this system, not the system itself; which aligns with the common definition of SRE.

I think you’re just describing merkle trees; and “blockchain” in popular usage includes the consensus mechanism (mining or otherwise).

Is the “traditional” finance world this…incestuous? As a casual observer, the crypto ecosystem is almost entirely made up of folks printing Monopoly money, hyping it until it’s nominally worth something, loaning it to each other, and then g

Anatomically modern humans have only been around for ~300,000 years. Behaviorally modern humans, more like 150,000 years (or as recently as 60,000 years, depends who you ask). We are really a very young specie.

While I’m sure some libraries are still on very old setups, for the last 10 years or so the standard has been to throw away the entire user account between uses. If you forget to log out when you’re done, it happens when your timer runs out

You’re spot-on about Netbeans’ Maven support. If you need to resolve a complex dependency conflict, figure out where a transitive dependency is coming from, etc.; it’s trivial in Netbeans and all but impossible in IntelliJ.

IMO getting good customer service requires social engineering, whether it’s the Apple store or the cable company. Personally I’ve always been able to talk a Genius into replacing the device, even with a new one versus a returb; at no cost.
