Windows was designed around UCS-2, while it can be upwards compatible with storing UTF-16 data, the Windows APIs don't stop you from inserting almost any sequence of 16-bit words as file names, including unpaired surrogates (because Wi

You've got it completely backwards with regard to OpenOffice. LibreOffice was prematurely forked from it for the sole reason that "Oracle owns it now"; what played out was that Oracle managed to relicense the entire suite to

Your conspiracy theory sensor is set a bit too sensitively. :) This isn't Oracle acting malicious. It's a mistake.

the gov TLD is managed by the US government. It's very rare that you renew anything with ICANN, since you're almost always going at least to the entity that manages a TLD (unless you run a TLD, then I guess there'd be an ICAN

You don't need a Makefile, but you can just run "make foo" and it'll automatically run "cc -o foo foo.c" for you.

Is this by the same people or is it a competitor to the PNG development group ( http://libpng.org/pub/png/ )? The latter's website still heavily says that PNG is a still image only format, and promotes MNG as t

I likewise remember maintaining svnsync mirrors to have locally-browsable subversion history. Not only was it faster, but it also meant I could work offline. At least until I had to sync up my local commits to a remote server, oh boy that&#

No, I meant major. Each of the 3.x releases brings in new features, deprecations, and even sometimes removed features. They are all major releases. Python doesn't go by semver rules. Semver isn't a definition for all software proj

I think it's fair to say that DragonFlyBSD has diverged with vastly different goals to FreeBSD. It's a good thing it's able to do what it sets out to do. It's not trying to replace FreeBSD.

They have that limitation, but it doesn't manifest in quite a simple way. If the container's glibc and all other binaries require Linux 6.3, you're not running it on a 5.18 host. FreeBSD is developed as a whole unit. It makes
