There's an irony in here, he's trying to demonstrate Firefox draws text wrong, but his example of "wrong" rendering doesn't match how Firefox actually renders it for me.

Microsoft ships it, so I assume so? I haven't personally ran any versions beyond Windows 7, I can't directly comment on any features after that.

Can't disable DTrace :) Though DTrace is "only" available on Windows, Mac OS X, Solaris, illumos, and FreeBSD. Oracle has relicensed DTrace to be Linux-friendly and even made kernel patches, but it'll probably never end

There was a marked difference between Windows 2000 and XP. Windows 2000: Everything opens instantly, no delays. Felt nice. Windows XP: Noticably more sluggish than Windows 2000. They've never recovered.

Given that it makes a script terminate for any unhandled errors, I don't think your goal contradicts with setting -e. Rather, it makes the script author explicitly handle errors or the script dies.

It's a silly web site that means nothing. If you attribute hurt or sadness to the result on it, that's not the fault of anyone else.

Darwin's FreeBSD roots are not very large (basically some of the userland terminal programs). It was never based on the FreeBSD kernel and that's where FreeBSD's Linux compatibility really resides.

Memory reclaim sounds very much like something only relevant to a Hyper-V VM, therefore WSL2. WSL1 just runs processes on the NT kernel directly. There's no need for memory reclaim just as there'd be no need while managing Win32 b

I personally don't consider the AGPL to be a free software nor open source license. The burden it places on operating and using the software sufficiently violates freedom 0 in my view.

You could see another comment I made on this story. :) WebP lossy has poor enough visual quality and poor enough file size gains over JPEG (especially after MozJPEG has really squeezed the most they could out of the 1993 format), that it&#x

Let's be fair, WebP lossless is pretty good, it has a couple advantages: 1. Almost always produces smaller files than PNG, even after PNG optimizers 2. Supported by all web browsers. WebP lossless' disadvantage comes in that the m

WebP lossy has abysmal quality compared to JPEG, and MozJPEG closed the file size gap quite a lot to make old JPEG a clear winner over WebP. JPEG XL doesn't fall into the same trappings of basing on a video intraframe and limited chrom

Combining Debian with Nix or Guix is a fairly excellent way to go. Stable OS base, selective bleeding-edge apps (or hell, multiple runtime versions that would otherwise conflict). Win-win.

Since it is a distribution by a hardware vendor that ships NVIDIA GPUs, I'll assume that they got a licensed from NVIDIA to ship their operating system with the proprietary drivers.

Exactly 1,000 feet is 304.8 meters, but "or about 300 meters" would have sufficed given the context. "About 1000 feet" already implies not being exactly 1000 feet. Of course, exactly 6 ft is 182.88 cm, but the precision

It was a clearly false statement when they said it. Adobe added JPEG XL to its products. Along with them, Facebook, flickr, and a bunch of other services expressed their eagerness to support the new format (because it is vastly superior to

With the only justification being "nobody wanted it", a plainly false statement. WebP isn't good enough. AVIF isn't good enough. JPEG XL is good enough.
