So does that make it better or worse than just blocking adds?

Screw that. If you don't like sites with annoying adds why send them revenue from click throughs? There are also a lot of hard working companies out there that would rather not pay $0.25 every time some ass hole with a browser extensio

Using the FTDI vendor ID is branding it as an FTDI product. I would argue that it is even more important than the text printed on the chip since that is the part of the brand that the average end user is exposed to.

Lock would be confusing because consumers associate that with being carrier locked. It is still an unlocked device, and the word choice helps make that clear.

There are two points to this SIM, and dedicating it to a carrier only negates one. This SIM still removes the requirement to either purchase a carrier specific SIM before first using the device, or have Apple stock devices with the various

In the US there isn't a legal way to purchase counterfeit goods. It may be different in other countries. Similar to stolen property, the person left holding the bag gets in trouble too. Edit: after actually looking up the issue instead

Did we read the same thing? I got the impression that the author realized at the end that "technically privileged" was just an illusion, and the whole point is that they don't exist.

Wow. Thats not bad at all. It must be a pretty cursory look, or maybe just a static analysis looking for something specific. That's good news

Does anyone have experience yet with the timeline for the beta app review required for external testers? This is significant because I feel like I would just have internal users bring their device over, or install it themselves from Xcode.

The HHMI page is still a press release. The peer reviewed article is published in Science here: http://www.sciencemag.org/content/346/6208/1257998 I am surprised that the paper is not linked in the press rele

My dad has setup email forwarding for the whole family as firstname@lastname.org. The .org is easy to explain and I think it suits a personal email well.

I would also change the title to be mail specific. Gmail may be better, but I actually prefer the integration of pages, numbers... over the google alternatives which are browser only.

I have had a similar experience. I just moved from my alumni organization's pop mail to iCloud for my personal email. I immediately started getting a ton of spam, and even contacted apple support about it. I am not sure exactly what th

It is not obvious that Baltimore <-> DC is the right place to start, but I think the US needs more high speed rail, and if this is the gateway to that program then I support it. If the plan is anything other than starting here and the

I am not so sure. The US government subsidizes Amtrak [1], and if you want to start a new rail line that is probably exactly what you are looking for. [1] to the tune of $1.4B last year http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Amtr

Seeing this reminds me how frustrating searching in the app store is. I saw this story on my computer, and picked up my iPad and went to the app store to download it. Searching for "photo math" yields a few hundred goofy photo edi

While it would be technically considered contract work, I think its a little short sighted to forgo a trial period because of what they called it. Its hard to see if an office would be a good fit in an hour or two, so I think the extended i

I am a long time mac user (since 10.0), and I have never actually looked at the appearance settings, so I checked just for you. In OS X 10.9 and 10.10 the only real appearance settings are two color options, and the size of the side bars (s

To some degree it depends on your vision. The 264 PPI is about my resolution limit. My boss probably couldn't tell the difference with more than 100PPI. I should be able to tell you the theoretical diffraction limit based on a 5mm pupi

In the MEMS world we have something similar to this where you don't get a full wafer you just pay for copies of the device you design to be put on the next run. In this case it makes even more sense because the processes are much more
